fighting game for Eurographics competition

#1

The two of us (beaudoin and nikao) thought it would be cool to submit something to the Eurographics: Graphics Meets Games competition at the end of May 2006. Therefore, we would like to start a collaborative team graphics demo/game. This will be a smaller project, but we plan to win the competition, so we will need quality more than quantity.

It will be a fully functional fighting game of sorts, with one character, but different garments (for differentiation) but a full list of moves and combos.

nikao will handle the rigging, skinning, animation, cloth simulation.
beaudoin is taking care of graphics programming, game programming, UI programming.

We two have worked on 3 IGF projects before with a much larger team, and would like to make it very clear, at the outset, that this project will complete. We can’t guarantee that we will win, but we at least will get to put our names on an awesome product.

The graphical techniques which beaudoin will implement include precomputed radiance transfer (PRT) (which models effects such as subsurface scattering and soft shadowing) and post processing effects (depth of field, high dynamic range light blooms and motion blurring). The character effects will include dynamic damage system (people getting bruises and cuts), local deformable PRT, and pre simulated cloth animation (by nikao). Gameplay features include intelligent in game cinematic view, and the ability at any time to stop the game and rotate and zoom the camera around the characters.

What the game still needs are concept artists, level artists, texture artists, and someone to complete nikao’s preliminary character model, including some zBrush normal maps.

We will post updates weekly as
Artistic % completed
Programming % completed
with breakdowns of each
