Fetch | Cg Short.

Yea I get you… You are right .
I think chamfering may work, you will have to turn up the smoothing group angle.
Or put some extra edges by hand. It may not look as good as “sud D”…
You may have to do a test. See what works best for you.

I’ve started blocking out the street animation.
Just so I can get a better idea of what will be seen in the shot.

All the purple cylinders are kids, the green cylinder is that bad kid
jerry from derry…

It starts off from the sky, as the freak originally wrote.
Saying “the collaboration team presents” tilting down
to the street showing the fat kid eating ice cream in front of the ice cream truck.
then jerry rolls by on his skate board and takes the ice cream from the kid.
He eats it as he rolls down the street.
He sees a kid with a ball bouncing it on the ground.
Jerry slides the skateboard to a stop and jumps off, runs up to
the kid and kicks the ball over to the other side of the street into the “fetch kid’s” yard.
As the kid on the big wheel rides by looking at the ball fly over him.

We will try to put other kids in the background doing random things as well.

So far it looks like we can see about 9 houses in the shot so far.

I will keep on fine tuning the shot as we get more models textured and put in place.

great idea Omar keep going my friend  about the skateboard texturing updates coming soon:twisted:
I think I will be trying to texture things with u "enough modeling…lol " so that I can have a better
idea od how all things work and have a good practice:bounce:

Hey Guys,

This one scene short is quickly turning into a one street short  but I am loving it and I think we have a great team here who can pull it off.
I am taking a leaf out of Tony’s book and trying my hand at texturing so that Big O is not doing all the work. I guess the guilt finally caught up with me  and with Omars fine help and videos I am working away at texturing my house. I will post updates in a while.

Once I get this done I might try and make a couple of quick kids for the scene if nobody else has started them by then. Or some houses, after all we need 9 of them! I think we have 5? but I am not sure. Perhaps Omar knows the total so far.

Looking forward to seeing your skateboard Tony…I hope it is a fireball!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

#765

how much time it will take you to finish this pro.max 2 months or some.?

#766

How long is a peice of string?

This is a personal project for fun and learning. That being the case we have no fixed deadlines. We are moving along pretty fast though because everyone has worked so hard on it and Omar & Tony have kept the beast alive

We have been at it now for 10 months and during that time most of us have been working/schooling/freelancing etc. but none of us have been worrying about a deadline for this project and I don’t think that is about to change.

So to answer your question…I don’t know how long its going to take. We need another animator if possible maybe even 2. We have modellers galore and hopefully with me and Tony texturing it will give Omar some time to concentrate on other things.

I doubt it will be as little as another 2 months though. Perhaps Omar has a deadline in mind but I am happy to work on the premis that it will be done when its done :stuck_out_tongue:

I know that doesn’t help you much, but just enjoy the ride and if you cannot stay for the full length of the project, then don’t worry about it.

Cheers

here is chamfer 0.1 and smooth modifier applied. think it works fine .if not tell me if it should be more.whole house will be smoothed like this.

#768

Yea, what he said above…
I’m guessing September to November for a completion date .
But if not no big deal.
Weather the project is complete or not a person should
focus on doing the best they can, because their work should be able
to stand alone in the case of a demo .For example
if I have to make a shoe, I would try to make the best shoe I can.
So in case the project does not get done, at least I have a real
good shoe model to put in my demo.
Even tough that is not the only point of this project.

Anyway, as for the model it is a bit hard to see in the picture.
The chamfer looks like you could make them a bit bigger.

Put the model on the server so that I can get a better look at it.
Then I can tell you for sure what needs to be improved.

#769

Hey Guys,

Well I thought I would post my progress on the texturing front so far. Not sure if I have gone about this correctly for the most of them but it seems to look OK to me. Big O will be the judge of that though :stuck_out_tongue:

Not sure what way to do the windows on this, there is nothing inside so they can’t be transparent. I have just modelled them as part of the frame but that can change if need be. Any ideas?

I had to remove the roof as it was causing problems, I think I will redo it anyway with UV’s in mind this time.

Well let me know if it is OK

Close up of the porch

Cheers

#770

wow Richard amazing work and just in time Iam going to show my progress too but lol Iam no match for u
Big O I imagined it like this …is it okay ?

by the way I remember modeling a base mesh for a kid take a look Omar
if u want it I will upload it (u can change it and make many kids I think lol )
sorry but this is the best thing I can do in characters " that`s why I left it like this "
just to mention he is with four fingers hahahaha lol hmmm …no laughing please:twisted:

#771

Very nice updates!

Don’t you guys got work or school? or something. I know I do, i dont seem to get anything done last week:bounce:

I gonna try texturing too, don’t know if its of any use to the project because i dont know how it exports.

Greetings

#772

Rich.
Texturing is looking good keep doing what you are doing.
The only thing I see that may be adjusted is the over all colour pallet.
But I will worry about that, as I told you on MSN.

As for the windows, make them glass but hang closed drapes or blinds behind them.

Tony.

Just like in modeling scale is important.
I think you need to use smaller brushes, the white brushes are way too big.

Also you may have to simplify your design, most of the stuff you put on is hard to
read visually. So try to keep it simple. You should try to match the bottom big flame
to the top big flame.

You can dump the boy model on the server.

Niels.
Good to have you still checking in , keeps you up to speed.

#773

the boy is up
about the texture what do u think of keeping only the dragon ?
or
make it a red dragon with the flames in original color ?

#774

#775

Omar Don`t know if u textured it or not but I given it a try

school ??!! oh I remember now I have to study my exams are coming lol

#776

Tony here are some video crits, or for anybody else who want to see them.
Hope it helps

I’ve also put some wood textures in my “Omar” folder for you on the server.
Here are some links to some sites that I use to look for textures.

#777

Hey Guys,

Nice comments Omar, makes a lot of sense and I think I will need to emply some of them myself on the house once I have the first run of textures complete. Not sure if they will work in their current state and I am sure some of the details are a bit fuzzy. Either way I will get it all UVed before I worry about a 2nd version.

As for the skateboard. I wasn’t going to say anything but then I figured, if I don’t then some nerdy typr might do :stuck_out_tongue:

The top of the skateboard is usually covered in grip tape so putting a design on there is usually not a good idea. They sometimes have limited space for designs but even on cheap boards (i.e. my first skateboard) there is usually a good chunk of grip tape on either end of the board leaving at most the middle of the board for a graphic. On the more pro boards the top is usually covered and the graphic is on the bottom. This is also usuall scored to death due to grinds and what have you, but there are sometimes 2 plastic rails on each side of the board to protect the wood from this kind of thing. Finally the trucks on the boards are usually scored pretty badly too but that might just be overkill.
Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth. It may or may not be of use.

Found this pic online to help illustrate the above point:
http://www.aquateencentral.com/images/skateboard.jpg
http://media.musictoday.com/store/bands/430/product_medium/ueam58gn.jpg

Some cool designs from Birdhouse (Tony Hawk) skateboards

http://www.birdhouseskateboards.com/products_completes.html

Again you’ll see that all the pics are of the bottom of the board because the top is usually all black grip tape. Hope that helps.

I might try and make some videos myself, I am no expert at Photoshop or Texturing but I can throw a couple of ideas out there that might help.

Cheers again Big O

#778

I did think about the grip tape as well, but figured that we could take artistic license on it.

But even without the tape the design would probably make
more sense on the bottom because of the rider being on top.
I guess because the cam would never show the bottom we could cheat it.
I think the side guard is a good idea, but not that important.
The truck idea is a good one too but I was just focusing on the board.
At the moment the trucks would be easy to just do in the end.

After all that is said about detail , I think it is more important to
get something that looks good in a cartoon style not so much a focus on detail.
… colour and style should be our focus. Not to say that detail is a bad thing.

But very good points and glad you brought them up into the discussion
because it is about learning and sharing our ideas…that’s why it is a collab.:stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Oh yea would love to see some vids …

EDIT :EDIT: Oh Tony if you want to do the grip tape or any of the suggestions that
the freak made feel free to do so…

#779

hey guys u gave me great ideas and ur crit Omar is very cool I think I now almost have an idea
of what my next step is I think I will change the hole texture design for the skateboard

hey Richard nice idea but lol how to make that in texture :bounce:
updates soon I hope :scream:
