Thanks for all the compliments I’m reading, the mowerbeast isn’t complete, but it’s mostly texturing. I guess I’m around 85 to 90% complete.

You guys are off to a good start. Thought you might be interested in seeing something I did, that is remarkably similar to your short…although the narrative is different. I am more interested in showing a role reversal, where the dog is not interested in playing with the child.

Oh, I really liked the music you had on your toon as well. Had a very Pixarish feel to it in their shorts. Great work indeed.

Been working on cleaning up the skinning and deformations of the boy.
Preparing him for animation. I had to re-work some of the polygons
of the mouth so it can deform better and made some new morph targets.

The face has to be rewired, so I may need Jon’s help for that.
The face is set up with the same technique that Jon
used a jaw bone with morphs working together.

I’ve been inspired by Jon’s work , so I started to lean some max scripting.
I did my first custom attribute script for a hand rig this weekend.

There is still a bit of work to do on the skin of the hands and the sleeves
of the shirt, but not much. Should be done in a day or 2.

Looks good! Glad you are learning the scripting. lol.

Did you notice the morph targets that I had on the seperate layer? Those are all editable. I have a live update on the targets so you can update the face on the rig. Sorry I have not had any time to do any updates on the rigs… I will do a quick fk on the dog and send it out. School. Its coming :open_mouth: lol. I may slow down for a little bit while I start up school, then get right back into this.

Looking excellent. Too bad I don’t know anything about rigging and skinning :smiley:
Anyway, I’ve uploaded the beast with all the textures. The materials are all a bit WIP, but I don’t know how much time I have to work on it, I’m pretty busy.

I hope it was okay, i decided to just take the model and rip it up. lol. So now we have a rig.

All the face adjustments have been done .
The image of the controls you see here is not the latest version.
I’ve added some more controls since that render was made.
The added controls are for the tongue, the tongue works by animating a spline
or if the animator chooses , can use morph targets in combination with
the spline animation or just morphs alone.

Now to work on the finalizing of the body.
As soon as the character is done we can pick up the pace again.

Here are the particles I’ve done for the opening title sequence.

Both the dust and small rocks are simple max particles. You guys are welcome to add/remove rocks around on the ground in the scene or do what you wish. I haven’t been able to test out how it looks with vray but the materials can be easily adjusted.

The boy rig is ready for action !
Time to put him in the battle field to see if he will survive.

It was a great deal of work to solve some of the skinning problems.

Not to take anything away from Jon’s rig, he did a great job.
His rig helped us to see what areas really needed to be worked on.
It also helped to develop and test the techniques for the new rig.
If Jon wants to continue to refine his skinning and rig
he is free to do so but I’m sure he is sick of that rig.
By the way I have a few ideas for the mower rig
but I’ll get into that later.

Seeing how we only have one shot to work on at the moment.
We may have to have a friendly competition to see who will animate the first shot.
Maybe you can each try it and we can pick one, or maybe the animators can do
a test animation first and we can decide …:shrug:

The first shot is just the boy playing the game, mostly facial animation.

All the max animators let me know who wants to have a go at it.
If you already know the server info , you can find the max 8 file in my folder
called “Shot_1_01.zip” I only included the boys face map because you may need
that to help see the eye brows. If you don’t have the FTP info
feel free to contact me .
