I did some updating on the beast, but I have to be honest - the mower files are really bugging on me. Somehow faith doesn’t want me to finish this thing or something - both the .max and .obj aren’t working properly. If I do the ‘explode’ function on the .obj, every single face will detach. That’s not really what I was suspecting it to do. :smiley:
Anyway, my hands are itching; I know how to do shaders, modeling, texturing, everything. The only thing that bothers me is the mower file.

Maybe .3ds would work - it’s a well known file type, I bet 3dsmax 'll import it the way I want it to.

If nothing works – have no fear. I just deleted the mower from my file, so anyone could very easly just download my file, and insert a textured/shaded version of the mower (without the long handles, that’s about everything that needs to be changed!). The rest are just seperate models, I barely touched the original mower model.

LOL :scream: I knew you would say that softdistortion.
Well the blue tone is how we know that Vray is working right.
The stones are white, the blue comes from the bounced light from
the sky dome it makes everything blue, but shows up more on white objects.

If you look closely you can see the purple of the title on the ground
and the red of the ball on the ground as well.

If it is too much of a distraction, I can always color correct it
in compositing stage or stop using bounced light.
Maybe I can set the sky not to bounce light.

The light I’m using is all white light, all the blue is coming from the sky,
but I also may change the color of the light in the final renders.

Jon, your animation looks much smoother and no question getting better.

I’m pretty happy with it…
It always looks like you have a photographer taking pictures of your videos
because of that flash caused by your compression LOL.

Why don’t you just detach the objects at sub object level ?
no need to explode, .obj format is better then .3ds because 3ds exports triangles.

… VRay…um…if you go through the work of setting up your surfaces, ain’t it kind of a pain to not see how they really look in the final renders? :stuck_out_tongue: :slight_smile:

So you’re going to render with Vray, eh?
Why not MentalRay, it’s got much materials made for it, and it’s free, so every contributer could use it. :slight_smile:

Hey Big O, I am liking the new additions to the ground. I quite like the blue in it too to be honest.

I like the mower too BOT, looking good, no idea why the obj file will not work for you though. I have never had that problem before with other max users. very strange.

Love the animation as well omega :slight_smile: i think it is pretty cool with the letter flexing and what not.

Sorry for not being as active these days, I have a load of stuff I need to sort out for work and what not so until I get it all done I will be taking a back seat but I will still keep up to date on the thread :slight_smile:

great work from everyone so far though, it is really looking fantastic :slight_smile:

That was a lot of reading and video watching! My eyeballs are dry. I just ran into this today, and it is true what everyone is saying - it’s moving fast, and a lot of talent and good work is being put out. Have all the tasks been assigned? I would like be down with this. What’s needs doing? Are all slots filled?

Hello, right now we need more technical stuff to be done.
We are trying to prepare the characters for the shot ,
and make sure that they can work properly.

We could use an effects person, that can do particles in max.
Things may slow down a bit because all the fun stuff is pretty much
done for this shot. The goal now is just to put all the parts together.
We have to complete the final touches of the models we have so far and animation.

Then we can move on to the next shot and maybe try to
work on multiple shots at the same time, once all the bugs are worked out.

Unfortunately I do not have max. I’ve never been on a collaborative effort so I do not know of confusion might come of it, but perhaps the the particles can be done in a software package that I do have and then composited in? I’d be grateful if I could try my hand at it even if it doesn’t make it in.

That would be pretty hard to pull off.
I guess it can be done but the result would look a bit flat
without having the advantage of using the 3D file of the scene.

But if you keep following the project in a week or 2 we should
have some more stuff to work on and have a better idea of what
needs to be done.

WOW guys front page promo!!!

Well I am very chuffed about that and I think it is well deserved, there has been a lot of work from everyone on this project so far and I just want to give a big thanks to BOY1DA for his work in getting things this far and keeping us all in line :slight_smile: Glad to see the BOY1DA chronicles have not stopped as well, just moved on to other topics :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome joshone glad to have your input. Just out of curosity, what app do you use and is there anything in particular you like doing. As BOY1DA already mentioned most of the work (regards modelling) has been completed. There may be a few small tasks so by all means keep checking but we will have other needs soon. Animation is a big one but as you are not in max that might be a problem.
I am sure other things will crop up soon, I don’t use max myself so I feel a bit redundant here as well but input and crits are needed just as much as the modelling etc. so hang around and see how things go.

Well congrats again to everyone who has helped out and offered their help. Lets keep things going and seeing how things turn out.

What software are you guys using here?

If you need a hand with anything, give me a shout. I’ve gone through this thread and couldn’t really work out what is left to do and what’s being done so far. Looks like a great idea.

Hey Freak (is just “Freak” ok?),

I use SoftimageXSI, and Fusion and I modeling mostly. But I do like messing with particle, rigid body, and soft body simulations and compositing in my experiments. <enter maniacal cackle>.

I’d also like to get more into good texturing and wouldn’t mind getting into a sort of “internship” where I might be able to learn and contribute in that area as well.

I most certainly will keep an eye on this thread and can’t wait to see the finished product, or for an opportunity to jump on in :slight_smile:

so ya, the projects lookin awsome! i really like how the lawn mower truned out. but what do you guys think of it had some flames or one of those shark tooth faces that are on the airplanes. you know, just to add some personality and what not.
