Hi,
I’m new to 3d modelling, having downloaded wings about a week ago. I’m loving it so far. I have motionbuilder, which is what led me to Wings with the announcement of the FBX plug-in. I’m on mac however and when I went to download it today it appears the plug-in’s only on windows now. If it is, does anybody have any idea how long before a mac version might be available?
Thanks.

HERE is the latest info on a Mac version I have seen. Kaydara released a converter (beta) for OBJ and other formats. It is PC only, but a Mac version is “coming soon” for it as well
Maybe one or the other will be out soon.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick response. I can’t wait for the chance to work them together but in the meantime I’ll be patient–I have more than enough to handle getting competent on both independently. Being new, I never thought about the fact that the obj format would allow me to do the wings to MB conversion once there’s a mac plug-in for this.
Thanks

Hi,
One further question. I just saw on a site that motionbuilder doesn’t support sub-division surfaces and that a model must be converted to a mesh before importing to MB. Sorry for the basic question, but does this have significance for wings given that it’s a subdivision modeler and if so, what should be done before exporting to MB? (I must admit I’m using terms I’ve only just discovered in the last week… I think I’m making sense but please forgive my possible ignorance.)
Thanks
It really just means that MB will not smooth your low poly object. In Wings you know how you can view the model smoothed? Before going to motion builder you have to actually smooth the object by adding geometry before exporting… So you just select your geometry and hit s. Hope this makes sense someone else may have a better explanation.
Hi,
Your explanation is very clear from what I understand. I can preview a smoothing operation in wings by pressing a combo (I think tab/shift) but I have to actually carry out the smoothing operation if that’s how I want it to look before exporting to MB.
You got it exactly ![]()
Your explanation is better than mine… I wasn’t sure if shift+tab was the defualt shortcut.
