Fauna

#1

Hi,

I’ve been working this for a while, but the displacement attempts were failure, I couldn`t create the map I’ve needed, so I’ve returned to the modeling and lighting phase.

Here are four tests for lighting, and two for just the pose. My wife prefers the Pose#2, while my son the Pose#1. Please give honest, and constructive critiques, I don’t want to run flamewar here, as it turned on the mudbox forum. Since mudbox test period has expired it will be finished in zbrush, and if I am patient enough, I will wait one month more to do it with zbrush3.

On mudbox forum I was told that this character will not have any attention at all, I like to change this opinion, but I don’t want give up my design. I need constructive help.

Thanks girls, guys!

Hey J3st3r!

First of all: Great Character you have there
Concerning your pose tests i would agree with your wife and choose Nr.2.
Pose #1 is also nice but boring in contrast to #2.
Pose #2 is more dynamic and it really looks as if she is afraid and hides from someone.
Maybe put the character a bit backwards to give the image more depth and strenghten the effect of hiding behind the tree.

Concerning your lightning when chosing pose #2:
The left side of the pic should be darker than the right side to bring in some dramatic lightning (like seen on picture 2 or maybe 4.)

And heads up:
When that one is finished i am sure it will get a lot of attention (having in mind your previous works)

I’m with frameless about pose and lighting.
The hiding (2nd) is a better theme for this character.
Btw, the pose needs to be stronger i think.
The lighting in picture 4 would be nice for that pose.

Also i can suggest another theme if you don’t mind =)
The Fauna was drinking water from the river in front of the big tree.
Suddenly she heard a noise coming from her left side.
While she was bringing her left hand with full of water to her mouth, she wide opened her eyes with fear and looked the way where the sound came from.

Keep up the good work!

Hi J3st3r

nice work!

i prefer pose and lightset #2
i like much the fur on leg base…

keep it up! :buttrock:

update before zbrushing:

Everything is done in XSI, but the small plants are Maya paintFX converted to polygons, and crosswalked to XSI

#6

Well done man!

That looks terrific! Ten stars! I’ve also been putting off finishing some models until zbrush 3 comes out.LOL. The lighting and the pose look really strong. I think it might look better if you made the grapes sort of cascading down out of the hand just to give a little more punch to the silhouette. Good luck!

hey, thats a really nice piece of work.

i like the last picture. but this is my opinion on it.

if she is hiding, or is alerted by something (maybe some one has seen her etc), i think it might be better if she is her back is slightly facing the camera, and she is looking over her shoulder a little, thats my opinion anyways.

looking forward to updates

I saw the beginning of your project on subdivisionmodeling.com some times ago…

I hoped you’ll continue it.

You have done some really great work!

Keep on, I want to see it finished

That’s a very nice character you got there  Verry feminine silouete and pose.

#11

I think this is looking very nice. I look forward to seeing it come to completion.

Thanks, xtrm3d! Do you still use LW? I remember your characters from the LW forums years ago, I loved your stuff!

#15

hehhe that funny that you ask … cause i too remember your cool stuff from the old lw days …
nope … not much LW for me these day …
forcing myself to use maya for my personal stuff ( although i have two year movie modelling experience in xsi behind me  )
here is my latest wip … if you are interested …

#16

How can you live with Maya? It’s a great application, but it bite me when I tried to use for modeling…I prefer XSI, let’s see, almost for four years…

#17

It is true that your lighting/pose could be a bit more drammatic, but really nice modeling so far! I can’t wait to see it finished.

#18

HELL YEAH! Well said

Really like the character - lot’s of life in it already :)

#19

IT LIVES mwahahahahahaaaa

Awesome work, I love the expression in the character. I only wish I could figure out how to do that…

The new hairstyle is a definate improvement, it really helps bring out the facial expression. Great stuff.

Nice job ! Pose is really a good making !

But, I think The hair is not too credible maybe, would you must make a choice between a sculpural hair or an animal fur ?
