FACT to 3DS... how?

#1

what is the best way to get models made with EI Modeler to 3DS? or even better, is there a way I can export the EIAS scene to something that can be read by Studio Max? I am using EIAS 6.5, I don’t have FBX.

If it can be done with FBX, anyone with 6.6 or later wants to help me? I would upload the scene file, models and textures to a server.

Thanks for your help.

Hiya,

This may not be the best way, but it’s free

Download the demo of Silo from Nevercenter.com and it acts as a file conversion utility. Import your fac and export your 3ds. I have found Silos export to be a bit flakey though. It may be wise to import and export your scene in smaller chunks.

I have silo (v. 1.4, not 2) and that’s something I should try, but if possible I want the cleanest way to do this conversion, it’s very important that the models are useable in studio max. Someone else (max user or users) will continue some work I have been doing and I need to give them the models in a way that’s easy for them to work…

thanks for the idea.

Can´t you just save your EIM models as .obj and then bring them in for example in Anim8or
(Freeware) and then save from there as .3ds? Well, just a thought.

Thanks, that’s a good idea. I never thought of that because I am on a mac, but I guess I can use the PC we normally use for accounting for this purpose.

You could do the same thing with Wings3D, which has a Mac version. www.wings3d.com
