facial modelling

#1

Hi,
I’ve only had MotionBuilder for about a month and am new to 3d work. I’ve downloaded the Maya PLE but had never heard of Wings until yesterday. I’m excited to have read that there’s an fbx plug-in for Wings now and also to have read on the MB forum on this site that Kaydara will be releasing a tutorial soon on boning and skinning in MB. Now the question. MB is great for facial animation allowing you to lip sync using wav files but you need blend shapes or clusters from Maya or the equivalent from another programme. I’m going to download Wings and check it out, but wondered if it has the ability to create the equivalent type of shapes that will allow for facial animation.
Thanks in advance
JRH

blendshapes can be created in wings, though that really only means tweaking the model to the shape you want then exporting it. several maya users do so. if the fbx format needs the blendshapes to be a part of the model, instead of combining the several different models together on its own, you will need to import the blendshaped models into maya or something to do that. Wings does not support any timebased functions atm.

Hi,
The tutorial on export from Maya I’ve seen has the blend shapes as part of the same file with the blend shapes all as targets for the base model, so from what you’ve said, I’m assuming this would mean that you would need another programme. I will follow this up though and if I find out otherwise report back.
