FaceRobot Export

#1

Sorry if this is not the right thread to ask

Is there a way to use dynamic stress displacement\bump maps on an exported model from FR, in, say, Max or Maya? If you export it in point oven, then you lose all the bones, and there is no way to attach dynamic texture parameters to… anything… Is there a solution for this?

I’m going to use FR for facial animation, and then export it in Max. Most of the wrinkles will be made in mesh, but some of the smallest will be in a bump map, which must be triggered only when a certain expression comes in place

thx

As far as I know, there is no format for exporting/importing dynamic maps.

You could however, export something which represents what the map is doing… ie. convert it to XYZ coordinates (or rather just X as its a scalar) then read it at the other end to drive the map.
Doing the softimage side is trivial with ICE.
I guess you’d need a max script to convert the x coordinates to a map at the other end.

Thank you for reply, yes, thats a nice workaround

there is no need in scripts for this. There are powerefull tools in max for mapping one parameter to another - parameter wiring and reaction manager =)

MaxScript could be usefull to create a workflow automatisation tool for this task

Thanks again )
