exported OBJ files contain multiple meshes?

I’m seeing this problem where if I smooth a high-poly level of a mesh within Maya, it splits into two parts and everything looks like crap. When I import the obj mesh into Maya, I get this warning:

Anyone seen this? I tried flattening the sculpt layers but it made no difference

I should mention that I get the warning but no problems if I export the lowest subd level.

cause Maya defualt OBJ import has the flag multiple ON

ya, I realized that you have to be careful to pick only one subd layer in the Mudbox Object menu before you export. That way it only exports the active one.
