Export to Motionbuilder

#1

Hi,

A question about export from Wings as obj and import into Motionbuilder. I just have the default material on the object in Wings and when I bring it into MotionBuilder all the material controls (diffuse, etc.) are set to 1.00, so it glows white. I replace this material with a default motionbuilder material but there’s still a glow of some kind. When I add a texture I get the color of the texture but not the pattern. For anybody using the two together do I have to do something with the mtl. file that comes with the object? I just ignore that since it’s greyed out in my browser. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
John

you do know that you have to import the model into motionbuilder as an fbx right?

Hi,

Yes I do. Sorry I didn’t give more details. I’m actually using the beta of MB 5.5 which allows for direct import of obj into Wings. (Really nice not to have to go through the converter) It works the same though if I go through the conversion of an obj export to fbx and bring it into MB 5.1. What I’m getting is the object as it would look in wings when you click the shaded icon in the left corner at the top. If I try to put a blank texture on a Wings cube in MB it doesn’t put the question marks all over it as it does with a cube created within MotionBuilder. The texture only appears to go on a couple of faces. Do I maybe have to do something as far as uv mapping within Wings?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

My terminology may be wrong here but I think I understand what’s happening. I just don’t know how to resolve it totally. On the issue of texturing, if I do uv mapping in Wings before I export then I’m able to apply a texture to the whole object in MB. With no texture applied I still end up with a model that is unshaded–it appears as it would if I click the shaded icon in the top left corner of wings. Anybody know what I’m doing wrong? Thanks
