EXPLORING THE WORLD OF EN, WITH OLIVIER TOSSAN
Olivier Tossan is a Visual Development Artist who formerly worked at DreamWorks Animation, and who has recently brought his imagination to life through his new film project, The World of En. Born in Paris, Olivier was an illustrator for many years, taking the time to study and refine his craft. He now resides in California and is gearing up to bring En to the big screen, and we couldn’t wait to find out more about what this process has been like for him. What was your first professional gig as an artist in the industry, and how did you land it?
Once I made my decision to move to the US to work in the animation industry, I started to send my portfolio to all the major American animation studios. After several months without any response, I was contacted by Blue Sky Studio which was based, at the time, in White Plain, near NYC.
I first had an Interview on the phone, and then I received an invitation to present my work to them, in person, in White Plain. I ended up freelancing for them for 6 months while living in Europe.
Fantastic! And how did you ultimately end up making your way over to California? We’d love to know more about the fueled the decision to live here, as well as how you were able to get your foot in the door at Dreamworks!
