koshime,
lol, somehow I knew it would boil down to just more work…
Terro,
I very much like the contrast between modern high-tech architecture and that horse cab. Wonderful.

hi guys cleaned the third one up abit, and extended the canvas so as to see the hallway thingie, koshime, i was wondering how could i achieve like the type of colour that u did for the sky pier tutorial… and how can i speed up my painting, i seem to want to perfect the form of the object before i can just get the rough piece…
At the moment, your thumb is still very light.
Try this.
[ol]
[li]Duplicate your layer, set to multiply[/li][li]Erase out elements so yoru forground is more solid, and your backgroudn elements are further away[/li][li]Flatten[/li][li]Duplicate again, set to overlay and opacity around…60%. Now transform this layer to rotate (at any angle till you find some interesting change of lighting/and contrast). Erase out elements you do not need[/li][li]flatten[/li][li]You can then - duplicate the layer and then apply colour balance (to quickly add some colour) and set the opacity to say 50-70%[/li][li]or you can, select from your layer options > colour balance and tweak it with some colour. When you finish, press Ctrl-I (this will invert the process and your colours are only black/white) Notice when you paint on your layer now, it will paint the added colour balance in.[/li][li]When complete. Flatten![/li][/ol]Hey presto!
Great work guys
koshime i had a real hard time with this
Heres my thumbs Im not to happy with them,I found it real hard making shapes.Costom brushes im sure could have made this a ton easyier. But i struggled to learn a ton lol Ill work farther on the one’s you feel i should take to the next level:) ive been real busy this week(flyfishing Guide) on the water 4 30 am to midnight or later every night so i really just wanted to make sure i keep pace with everyone:) i could easyly use to do 1000 more of these for pactice on just these basics

And another one. You guys think I should keep the distant sky scrapers, or does it take away from the station?

The distant sky scrapers are still so distant, they’re barely visible. So it’s good for the moment. You might want to add some elements that allow teh eye to follow yoru structure all the way to the bg (some mid ground elements!)
Took your advise and added some more closer up skrapers, I also blocked in some foreground elements. Next thing to tacke is the platform, it’s definitely lacking in detail.
May be a few days till I continue on this one, got a dead line to keep, lol.

Terro,
that transparent departure light thingy is so cool I am going to steal it one day when you’re not looking…

hey peeps, cleaned this piece up even more and the first one is following koshime’s advice till number 4. the next one is using the opacity thing and rotating it… C&C please… im still confused about the colour bit koshime…
did several things here:
worked with a smooth brush over the textured chalk lines
cut off the left area and introduced the take-off platform from a different previous thumb
toned down the overall contrast to give me more value range for later on
added a low-contrast skyline
so, heavy wip…

Hi Mu. thats a nice WIP, the only thing is the grating cuts off the airship to some dgree. Its a hard image to produce, and ideally, a clear view of your objects is desirable
For example:

The ship seem to get lost during the chaos
i did a bunch of things ive never done before in this:) I started trying to color the way you said lol i dont think it worked and and to do it the hard way lol this was very much a struggle
i still can put a ship in if you think i should.

Wow Pxlprophet.
I appreciate it can be really hard to add colour to a monochrome (as it is done liek gentlre washes of watercolour) Some folks just go straight into colour (but are not able to deal with the value structure).
One suggestions is to add colour by, adding a general colour wash gradient via colour balance (only subtly), and keep adding more and more with each iteration. But I can see your piece have alot of great potential!!!
Hi koshime,
funny, I just removed the grates when I came back and read your recommendation.
I think I will try to add two ships, one behind the window, one on the left platform
more cleaning up…:

PxlProphet - I cant see the pic…
great stuff guys!..Here is a quick reference montage…I’ll try to get some thumbs done soon!
