Elixir of the Full Moon

#1

Hello everyone…

I would be very grateful if you could help me on this one. It is “Johan and Peewit” and “The Smurfs” character redesign, and I have placed it into a scenario.

Here is some backstory:

Elixir of the Full Moon

Gargamel is frustrated by his failures. Unable to achieve his goal, he made an elixir which transforms the Smurfs into blood thirsty tree-like beings on full moon, planning on consuming the Smurf society from the inside; but it began to grow out of control by spreading brutality. Johan and Peewit are appointed by the King to solve the affair strategically, with vain results…

The redesign idea is that Johan is more like a cavalier rather than a peasant; the Smurfs have been transformed into more of a tree like beings and glowing hands/claws; the rest is pretty obvious I think.

Thank you in advance!

The lighting is a bit incoherent, since you clearly have a back-lit scene, yet on many areas, we don’t actually see the effects of it.

Having the main focal point near the center of the image is usually not a good idea–it doesn’t help create a sense of interesting eye movement in the audience. It’s a better idea to offset it elsewhere and then counterbalance the main focal point with supporting elements. I do like the worm’s eye, wide angle look though. If you tilt the horizon (the entire image) a little, it’ll be even more exciting/dynamic.

You might have to unify the color cast of the whole image and make it consistent with the color cast of your light source, which appears to be the sole light source, thus will dominate the color cast of your entire scene.

Your brushwork is currently one of the biggest quality killers in your work. You need to work on making your brushwork more elegant, descriptive, expressive, and less clumpy, rigid, and arbitrary.

Thank you.

I am fully loaded at the moment, but will definitely try your suggestions when I’ll have some time.
