This one is next for nezt award
front page for 100%. Nothing more to say. Only I could say that with blue blouse he looks better. Horse, horse … cool idea. I hope it will be black.
el Zorro
OMG I thought you were only going to make Zorro but now your making Tornado! Great work so far… More like awesome work so far.
thank you guys
ok i did more work on tornado… it’s time to go to sleep now, i want to be fit tomorrow, i hate hanging around at home

i love the model setup.
dont you think you’ll get skinning problems with the triangle on the front shoulder? If i use triangles in regions where a lot of animation is going on i’m getting strange lighting problems on those regions.
i only get those problems when using meshsmooth, so the mesh doesn’t smooth that well, but it’s lowpoly and in the end they are all triangulated, look at the models done for doom3 theye got plenty of triangles, which is obviously needed in lowpoly, and the deform pretty good… however, if I need to add some more polygons in that area i’ll do that while i’m skinning… i’ll see when posing the whole thing
so noone has problems with the overall shape and anatomy? ok i can start doing the textures … oh no i should start with the gear before
Actually neox, i don’t like the size of the legs in relation to the head neck and torso. I’ve got an arabian at my inlaws place, and something about Tornado just kinda looks off in that area…maybe the neck is a little too long, or the legs are a little skinny. Sorry to post late on it, maybe I’m wrong.
Can’t wait for updates.
it’s never too late
i’ll post my reference this evening, i worked with a picture of a horse sculpture, because it was the best i could get for a real side view… however, maybe the sculpture was wrong… or i was to sick to recognize the mistakes ^^
thank you for the image
this is the reference i used
however i’ll do the whole gear first, textudrize it then and then change the proportions when i see the horse compared to Zorro
Just thought that I’d point this out; Just like breeds of dogs aren’t the same size and shape, not all breeds of horses are the same either.
If you are going to be making Tornado and want Zoro’s horse to look authentic, then you’ll want to find some references for a noble horse of spanish origin. The two examples people have put up for reference are great, but they aren’t Spanish horses. Compared to the average American quarterhorse, Spanish breeds of horses tend to be smaller with thin/long athletic legs, wider bodies (for a smooth ride), and have longer faces. They’re closer to Arabian horses in look than French or English horse breeds (if that helps any). There are quite a few breeds of spanish horse, so I’ll leave it up to you…
Oh, and I found a couple links that have some examples of Spanish horses
http://www.conquistador.com/spanish-breeds.html
http://shirehorse.equiworld.com/breeds/spanishhorse/
and here’s an example of a regal spanish horse, it’s a purebred Cartujano…

Hope I helped a little!
thanks for the informations
do you think they used spanish breeds in california where zorro is settled?
i dunno so i can’t tell but it would be logical for the spanish settlers to take their horses with them to california… hmmm
looking on the pictures in your linked pages, thge “normal” spanish horse has a bigger head, which results of the lower size?
I dunno, i have to test it compared to Zorro i guess, i don’t want the horse to look too small
hey guys
i just started texturing tornado… doing the shading for a horse is quite difficult, painting wrinkles in cloth is way easier then drawin almost perfect round bodies… never thought it would be that hard…
however here we go

Looks beautiful for me
This is a part of the texturing process in which Zbrush knowledge would probably help a lot. You could “sculpt” those round muscles, then bake the highres lightmap into the texture for an acurate lightmap (no need to do a normal map). This of course, would be useful for someone that’s weak at texturing, which you obviously ARE NOT!! Ha!
You really captured those rounded muscles. Only thing I would crit would be that some of the muscles where the legs are might be too defined. Like, perhaps the hard darks edges should be softened.
I’m curious how you are going to capture that majestic “snine” of a well kept horse.
Question that’s been dying for an answer from you:
What brush settings/mixing/smudge % are you using in Deep Paint to “smudge” the seems? I usually use the oil brushes, but it’s not working out for me these days.
-Rod
yes you are right, some musles are too much… i’ll fix that later
what do you mean with “snine” ? o.O
oh and a small update

I meant “shine”. LOL. I’m a retard that doesn’t know how to spell check some times. sorry. :)Have you ever seen pictures of those prize horses? Like one’s that are groomed to win competitions. I have this picture in my mind that Tornado is well kept like that. The hair is brused finely and it almost gives off this varnish looking shine. I did a google search for “prize horse” and got something like this:

Not that I’m a horse expert or anything. It’s just a thought.
