i love the detail in the belt. i think i would go crazy if i modeled and textured a character one piece at a time!

#62

Ahh, nice!! That’s EXACTLY what I do in deep paint. I used to do the “drawing” step with Maya’s artisan, but it’s not as responsive. Cool! People used to tell me that I was cheating myself by using righthemisphere’s products and it’s great to see a pro doing it like this

Go in, neox  I’m getting a free lesson from you.

#63

Do you draw the rough sketch of the pants in Deep Paint and take it into photoshop and colorize it?

#64

@red: its the first time i’m doing it like that, i always try different approaches on doing stuff at home, trying to get better ways for working in production

@podman: thats soooo stupid, every employer loves it to have you artists working faster… why worrying around with seams and the uvs in Photoshop when you can do it quicker and better with tools like deeppaint or zbrush?

@cloud: exactly :slight_smile:

ok next step

i’ll add some more ornaments to the red stripe on the side of his pant, and i guess i’ll add a few more reds here and there in the costume, giving it abit more color contrasts

#65

HA! Good to know

That is looking beautiful, neox. It’s painted up then a final overlay with actual denim photo or all just handpainted?

Great!

#66

painted with several noise and clothstructure layers overlayed to get the material looking like they do now, but iguess i merged the leayers to early… i’m not quite happy with the overall structure, maybe its a bit too rough

#67

oh my god this is so cool i love zorro!!

#68

Lovely progress Neox, thanks for the step by step always interesting to see how people work. I like how you want to make the mask detachable but it would definately look better with a shadow on the face so how about making a small row of polys (could be extruded out from the bottom of the mask) with an shadow texture that has an alpha. If you move the polys so they sit just infront of the face geometry you just might get a convincing shadow…or it might not be worth the hassle. Just a suggestion

#69

@gordon: i thought of that too, maybe i’ll give it a try currently its not that important to me so i guess i’ll test that later… but i think it won’t work on the ears… maybe i have to do this just for the nose and cheekbones… we’ll see

just a qick overpaint for seeing if the idea with the red stripe throught the whole costume works… what do you think?

#70

Wow!!..very, very cool Neox…you’ve made solid and very fast progress on this…it’s shaping up nicely dude…

p.s. what are you rplans for the cape tho’…is it gonna be rigged or do you plan on appyling soft bodies to it?

#71

Neox, this looks amazing. Your texturing is inspiring!

#72

Wow. I thought I’ll come back after a week and check your progress on the face. But…
You are nearly finished and he looks great.
I love those small details like the buttons and those on the belt.

Only thing is that the chest needs a bit shadow coming from the shirt.

Great job so far

#73

thank you guys

@john: hopefully i can do the cape with our ingame clothsimulation, it should workd really finde on such simple hanging cloth

@lee: its just a bit of :arteest: and :argh:

@florian: i haven’t touched the face texture since a while, i guess i’ll add those details when i’ve done the cape and the “connector” between both sides.
thanks

and again: what do you think about the idea with the red stripe going through his whole outfit?
sure i’ll add some mor ornamentics to it, but will the main idea of this work?

#74

yep. why not. Could give him a more iconic look…ehm…or a adidas sport dress
Which is also cool.

#75

I think the red stripe works, but I’d go with a more saturated red so it stands out from a distance. This is just a personal preference of mine, though. I like characters that have clear definable(is that a word?) areas when viewed from a distance. Kinda like, if this character were to be ported to a PS2, would it still look good? You know what I mean?

#76

hmm i’m getting tired… so no almost finished part today
just the beginning of the boot

having the boot on it makes me see what the major problem with this part by part modelling is… the overall proprtions… well i’ll fix that later, may the softselection be with me

#77

Neox that looks awsome…
and the step by step on how YOU work is grate too…

nothing to crit only that there´s somthing with his legs… dunno?

Anyway really grate … updates:scream: LOL…

#78

i’m too drunk to really answer you ^^
ok well… erm… yes… i’ll take care of the legs, no update for today :bounce:

#79

so i reworked the boots

#80

Neox, looking good man. Question, can you shoot that UV texture map as a download? The ones with the numbers and letters, it’s one of the better ones I’ve seen, I’m getting a lil worn on the multi-colored clown one :).
