hey guys
my gf wanted to learn something about 3d modelling and texturing, so i started this one with her, model by me and the texture was mostly done by her, well ok we worked together a lot on it, but she made the most stuff on it

here’s the rough concept

and the first two progress shots

still have to tweak a lot of stuff on the model, way to smooth and doesn’t look that spanish …

c/c welcome

:edit: writing ain’t easy :edit:

I wish my grandfather would be that talented;)

Maybe there is too much light fixed in your texture. It looks cool with self illumination but fake when its shaded. The shadow around his nose is too redish.
I think its a good idea to dirty up the whole texture. Perhaps the mask and face could be connected with a small shadow line.

…just some ideas. Anyway it looks very good

cheers

Hey Neox…excellent concepts, cool model and pretty good textures, imho I think it maybe better to aim for a less shadowed texture pretty much what florian has suggested…personally I don’t think it’s far off, just hope this is all saved on layers for very easy editing (I swear by ‘em :))…all the same good work, any thoughts on how the approach to the cloth textures are gonna be approached?..some good work tho’

btw…I think that is very cool that your girlfriend is working with you on this…very cool indeed…

@florian: we wanted to have everything as single models, the face, the mask and the hat to be able to use whatever we need for a good final character, so a shadow of the mask won’t work on his face when we take the mask off

@johnwhoo: well yes we will work more on those dark areas but i’m no friend of total flat textures, as long as i’m not working with normalmaps (and its not planned on this char) i don’t think that it would be wise to work with plain skin textures without shading, i definately like textures with a more painted feeling, it gives the models more live… and there are no layers, its everything on one layer, i’m always creating layers when i need them and merge them down afterwards :stuck_out_tongue:
i guess the cloth will be painted as like face… just with some more wrinkles, highlights and shadows

Hey there,

Stylistically speaking he looks great so far. Im sure the few skin tweaks that have already been mentioned will bring out what you have even more so.

A great start, keep the progress coming!

Nathan.

Hey, that is nice model you have made so far…I too am teaching a girl I know who wants to get into 3d. Zorro looking smooth is not too much of a problem…

May I suggest using a specular map on the skin instead of painting the light on, the same with the eyes? You would need one hell of a lighting setup to show off the specular map. The hat is dead on!! To make him “Spanish like” I will paste an image of Zorro I have stored here. Perhaps this can be a little helper. Can’t wait to see the body…

I too am a fan of things on models that can be taken off…and I never paint on objects that can be removed.

#7

just so you know, gf usually means girlfriend not grandfather :stuck_out_tongue:

#8

Yeah. I know. I just wanted to let Neox know, that I wish my grandfather would be as talented, as his girlfriend.

#9

but i was talking about my female grandfather

#10

Whoa I see that Yopu have in here very … interesting conversation  . grandfather, girlfriend, female grandfather … almost the same :scream: . Zorro looks very promising. Now when You done all stuff for E3 You have time for You own. Good job Neox

P.S. - don’t add any spec to his hat, mask or clothes, should looks more attractive.

#11

That’s really looking good!

I love the texturing.

#12

ok here is an update, well i should go to bed… beeing ill just sucks :frowning:

#13

Looking very sharp indeed…this is progressing superbly!:buttrock:…

#14

yep. Good update. He looks like a elegant swordsman.
The neck UVs look stretchy.
Maybe you could reduce the highlight of the mask, under his eyes. Now it looks like the fabric stays very tight in his eyesockets, for no reason.

Ich hoffe das hat man verstanden :hmm:

gute Besserung.

thanks johnwoo

@florian: yes i understand what you mean i’ll fix that, yes there is some stretching, i removed it a bit, you’ve got a keen eye  i made that to get some mor texturespace, tho’ there will be medallion that will disctract the eye from those small stretching (i hope)

ok here are the first tryings on the hair

never really done that before

und danke Florian, ich schätz ma ich bin morgen wieder fit, PW muss ja fertig werden

Wooohhhaaa!!! This is really great:buttrock:
You and your gf are making fantastic job on this dude, have u body already modeled?
Or you are making him part by part…?
Good luck, im hope all rest will look good as his face:applause:

#19

Looks god, i really love the texture on his face, but his ears need to have a more realistics texture.

#20

hi neox… bit hard to find your stuff

i like the look very mutch and i´d love to see the whole model!

only some smal crit

maybe u can make the corner of his mouth look more natural
the shading in the ear could be a bit more satured
and the sideburns should follow the natural hairflow a bit more

just a bit bc its of course still wip :stuck_out_tongue:
