EI's specular highlights

#1

Does anyone know how to get whiter looking specular highlights in EI. The lightplane shader does a nice job of it but I’m not using it at the moment because I need sub surface scattering. It doesn’t seem to truely take on the colour that you specify in the colour swatch in the specular channel. It always seems to be influenced to heavily by the diffuse colour.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure “difuse bias” is turned off, specular should then be independant of diffuse.

Also, for highly reflective objects, you can try turning off specular altogether or value of “0” and then using or allowing the highlights in a reflection map to become your specular highlight.

The AG cineon shader also offers much improved speculars, in some cases, by simply adding the shader to the material, as seen here-

and here http://www.affinity3d.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=105

Ag cineon also does fast “fake” SSS

Yup yup.

Plus if you’re highlights arn’t bright enough remember you can just add the Anisotropic shader, turn off the patterns and turn on the phong/blinn specular. You can set the brightness above 1 here whereas you can’t in the specular tab.
