EIM Needs a Name

#81

I think its fine to say something like:

From the makers of the Electric Image Animation System comes: insert name here

We’re not changing the name of the company, we’re not changing the name of the existing software. EIAS is fine for the first generation of products. This is a new generation of product. It deserves a fresh start…and a clean slate.

Personally I’m kind of in favor of naming the new product line after famous story telling theaters or movie houses.

What do you think about the name: Rialto

#82

This is a similar tactic Alias/Wavefront did when coining Maya.

It was too much to say Alias/Wavefront Power Animator. Maya means Illusion which is fitting for an animation package…

Rialto could play on the storytelling angle.

#83

First time I’ve ever heard that Maya means “Illusion.” Hell, Illusion would have been a better name than Maya.

#84

Sounds like it would be parked next to my dad’s El Camino.

As far as “movie house” themes go, my pick is “Magic Lantern.”

#85

LoL…

Hey the el Camino was one hell of a car…

#86

True. Plus, my dad’s had a spotlight. How rad is that? And by “rad” I mean totally sweet.

#87

I agree.

ElectricImage should stay. Sticktoitness is a good thing. It’s good to say “oh they are still around?” We don’t we multiply!

Electricimage’s “Amp3D” Pronouced “Amped 3D” or just “amped”

ok. I like the whole Electricimage reference. Got another name …

“TAZER”

That’s SHOCKING.

there’s another.

SHOCK 3D.

hhaha. !!!

#88

Greased Lightning?

#89

Yeah, I agree, keep the name the same.
It is what it is, its the modeler for the electric image animation system.
EIM.
Unless, its something else that we don’t know about.

EIM or Electric Image Modeler tells you what it does. Modo, Silo or Concepts unlimited are words without sense. They tell you nothing.
Rialto sounds very funny to me. It’s the name of every second icecream parlor here in Germany. Since I like icecrem very much it has no negative connotation to me, but it has nothing to do with 3D.

Not very much people here remember ElectricImage, most of them don’t have negative impressions about the product, some of them know that it was a highend-product. So I really don’t see a need for name-changing.
Just let it EIAS, EIM this is kryptical enough, a technical abbreviation for a technical product.
No silly fun-names which can hype a product for a while and then beeing dropped again.
I was deeply disappointed then I tested Ashlar Cobalt and saw that it was the same Ashlar Vellum with the same old bugs in disguise.
EIAS EIM are very good products even with the old names.

Sometimes it’s not about meaning but about how well it rolls off the tongue, if it sounds hip and one looks smart by dropping it into conversations :). Modo and Silo mix that with being new, humble in a way but hungry for success, and showing off its userbase’s good vibrations.

I wonder if renaming EIM right now is a bit premature for a “simply” resurrected app. Shouldn’t it wait until a whole independent package has been formulated? Unless it has been done so, already, and EITG plans on launching it as a fully independent product with a consistent marketing plan, “EIM Resurrection” being the first stage (sort of like an initial Concepts 3D, looking forward to bringing an Unlimited version later).

(By the way: for me, turning something like “Concepts Unlimited”, which mixes the semi-important “Concepts” with the daring and exciting “Unlimited”, into “ViaCAD Blah” is a stepback, and a bit strange coming from the “Shark FX” guys)

I saw someones list above and for a moment read it incorrectly and realized that what I thought that I read sounded interesting so here it is.

POLYFORGE

Bill

PS…I have not read all the messages so sorry if this is a duplication.

#93

Aurora (as in Borealis, a nod to Blair)
Eigo (or Eigon)
Fission

#94

Hell, let’s get really abstract. Haiku.

Really, though, I’m not keen on abstraction as trend. modo says “modal” to me, and the whole lowercase thing is pretentious. Maya seems so last week. And 3DS Max seriously needs to drop the Max.

I maintain — nay, insist — that Electric Image is the best name out there. It should be leveraged, not abandoned.

#95

I do like Factory, though. It’s understated. That or Modeler.

#96

May be ‘FACTOR’ if EITG still believe proprietary fact file is the way to go and to advance FACT support with the NEW EIM that generate full featured/advance fact files that drive EIAS crazy.

Sticking with electricity I thought an action word rather scientific descriptive word (geek boring).

Zap…

as in Electric Zap.

Furthermore in a slogan “model EZ with Zap”. If it where a comic sound effect might be zapp! or burrr! Shazam! (might run into copyright issues with comic)

make it EZ with Zap…

As a bundle like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe flash you’ll have Electric Image, Electric Zap, Electric Plug etc…

my 2 cents.

Electric Shock

#99

Yeah, the shock will be if it all works… I don’t really think the name makes any difference whatsoever, as long as its not something totally stupid. If the tools work well the word will soon get around.

#100

However, this is a thread about names so…

Personally I like CJs last suggestion. Electric Shock. Shorten EIAS to Electric Image and you are staying with brand recognition as well as keeping the naming conventions neatly within the ‘family’.
