Really, though, I’m not keen on abstraction as trend. modo says “modal” to me, and the whole lowercase thing is pretentious. Maya seems so last week. And 3DS Max seriously needs to drop the Max.
I maintain nay, insist that Electric Image is the best name out there. It should be leveraged, not abandoned.
May be ‘FACTOR’ if EITG still believe proprietary fact file is the way to go and to advance FACT support with the NEW EIM that generate full featured/advance fact files that drive EIAS crazy.
Sticking with electricity I thought an action word rather scientific descriptive word (geek boring).
Zap…
as in Electric Zap.
Furthermore in a slogan “model EZ with Zap”. If it where a comic sound effect might be zapp! or burrr! Shazam! (might run into copyright issues with comic)
make it EZ with Zap…
As a bundle like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe flash you’ll have Electric Image, Electric Zap, Electric Plug etc…
Yeah, the shock will be if it all works… I don’t really think the name makes any difference whatsoever, as long as its not something totally stupid. If the tools work well the word will soon get around.
Personally I like CJs last suggestion. Electric Shock. Shorten EIAS to Electric Image and you are staying with brand recognition as well as keeping the naming conventions neatly within the ‘family’.
(Actually I do like Ion too. Electric Image Ion. Although EI Ion doesn’t quite roll out off the tongue too easy…)
If they do end up selling this new modeler separately, Electric Image Flux could be its full-on name, [Company ID] + [Product ID] …much like there’s Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, etc.
If they continue selling the Animator/Camera without the new modeler, as it is now, maybe keep calling that EIAS (Electric Image Animation System)…
A bundle with EIAS + Flux could be then be called Electric Image Factory.
Or Electric Image Studio.
Or Electric Image Fusion.
Or Electric Image Fission.
Or…
But yeah, in the end, the product itself is what must be compelling to attract users to it.
A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet, and all that.
Its fun to brainstorm and dream up names though.
