EIAS 7.0.1 unstable under 10.5.2, please help!

#1

Hello, Working with EIAS is becoming completely stressful, the application is closed between 20 and 30 times a day, even with very few simple polygons and projects.

Most problems occur while the camera makes render, but also when adjustments are made in materials windows, we should be saving every change we do for fear that the program be closed.

I am just using the EIAS shadders and aFraktal shadders.

Someone is experiencing something like that?

EIAS 7.0.1

2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 16 GB Ram

please any help will be welcome

Cheers

Well… lets start with asking the obvious questions first.

  1. Memory allocations to Camera?
  2. Any particular 3rd party plugin being used?
  3. Any strange configurations to your mac?
  4. Have you sent your crash logs to Matt Hoffman/EI?
  5. Potentially corrupt texture files? Are you using .IMGs or something else?

#3

Do the crashes occur when not utilizing aFractal?

Hi Brian,

  1. Memory allocations to Camera?

2000 MB

  1. Any particular 3rd party plugin being used?

none 3rd party plugin

  1. Any strange configurations to your mac?

Nothin strange, just 3 hardrives, one with EIAS aplication and other with the project and textures files.

  1. Have you sent your crash logs to Matt Hoffman/EI?

not yet…

  1. Potentially corrupt texture files? Are you using .IMGs or something else?

textures are 3000 x3000 .tif

Do the crashes occur when not utilizing aFractal?

we have not even tried without Afraktal, nearly all models use the wonderful aFraktal and aStorm

thanks for your interest.

Well… I’m just trying to isolate the problem. First suggestions would be to actually back camera’s memory allocation down from 2000mb to something more like 768mb. Try that first. If that doesn’t help, then convert the tif file to an .img file and replace your texture. If that doesn’t work then turn off the afractal/aStorm instances in the texture window and see if it renders ok.

Been using EI 7.01 on a 10.5.2 Octo 3.0, 10 Gig RAM. Very stable, running 6-7 slaves plus other mixed PC/Mac slaves. I set my Cameras to about 1.7 gig. And no tiffs.

However, I had quite a bit of sudden crashes earlier on my c2d iMac 10.5.2, many times EI would quit during a snapshot render, or if I click around and switch to other apps.

So there are UB versions of aFractal shaders?

#7

we have sent the log Crash Matt Hoffman,

we try to isolate the problem by following your instructions.

Thank you
Diego

yes AFraktal are UB version, but use materials from the library that maybe are old and may be causing the problem?

Here also works very well with 7 cameras renderama incredibly fast and hassle-free.
The problem is when we call snapshot render, EIAS quit.

Another problem is when we click on the desktop with the key option, the application hides and then there is no way to recover it, we are compelled to force quit of EIAS.

Have the same problem on this one.

Hello, after many hours of testing, I have not managed to isolate the problem.
EIAS is closed, in the process of making a snapshot, sometimes be closed after making 3 snapshot and other after making 20, as you never know when it will close we are compelled to save the doc every time we make a snapshot!

_Animator is who closes and the camera continues its work until it ends without problem.

_This also occurs with very simple projects with a Ubershape and a simple noise shadder. without bitmap textures.

_I have finished ideas, any suggestions?

Cheers

Try turning off Tooltips in the Preferences.

Hey Blair you rocks!!

3 hours working without EIAS be closed!

tons of snapshot without having to save:bowdown:
would have needed ten years of work to reach this solution.:beer::beer:

Thank you veeery much!

Happy user

Yeah. There’s something weird with the tooltips and Animator being in the background. We’ve added a check in the forthcoming 7.0.2 to skip the tool tips when Animator is in the background.
