Editing Custom Attributes

So i created a model that needs to be easily animated and i used key driven for this. Originally when its in the idle state the value would be 0 (Default) and when its ready a value of 10. However when im trying to swap the values in the edit attribute the values just keep resseting to the original values. Also ive already rigged the mesh to the custom control curve with this attribute. Any solutions of this?
