E.D.A.H - Every Day An Hour

#101

actually if you focus on every day improvement, you will slow down the improvement speed. the idea behind EDAH is to compare your result from day one with day 30. you need certain amount of practice to really nail down the improvement. Sometimes we get stuck for days or weeks before we have the right click and move forward.

EDI also doesn’t work for ppl who has too much ego or pride. focusing on daily improvement will make them believe that they can improve easily, and after 5 days they just think they are superb and stop.

damn holydays …its such a time consuming thing ~_~

well ive developed a nice concept for close to 2 hrs then i got bored out of it completely and just messed around with duplicating it and rotating it on its side and got this head which i came up with a body to it and started working from there

then it looked kinda bull like nose which wasnt what i was looking for so worked on it abit more

itll be a ghosty\shaman like char with all sorts of trinkets on it and idk what more...
3.5~ in total so ill try working on it some more now that i have the time to :D

spez- nice stuff ,i wish i was in an art school or any school that i need to hand in some art stuff :D

Donglu- nice inviros ,i like your pallette on both of these :D i think tho that on the last one that small mountain in the middle of the pic needs to have a less saturated brown /needs to blend with the sky colour more cuz the dark blue side of it is almost blended with the background blue which makes it look like its in the distance but the brown is more saturated then the big mountain on the right of it which is supposed to be closer then the small one .
so it makes it kinda strange looking ,on my opinion, cuz when you look at the brown the small mountain looks closer then the big right one but when you look at the dark side it looks like its further into the distance :D
keep going ^_^

simh- cool stuff :D like those hands ^_^

any C&C will be more then welcomed :D

edit: and yah i know the right hand isnt proportional so ill fix it and some other things ,not all is decided atm so everything might change ^.^

I can’t scan my today’s drawing, but here’s a monster from my sketch book

#104

acb12, good eye, you are right about it, the middle rock should be closer that the right side rocks.

Here is today’s sketch:

#105

Heres a draw that i have in a bigger sketchbook, its still a WIP, and its a reproduction of a collage that I did of other artists’ work. (The left character is spawn, the top one is a draw from Andrew Jones, and the right one is a 3d model made by Jeremy Gritton during DW4)http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/5585/img81452.jpg

No scanner for the weekend… but still working on my drawing, here’s a anatomy/monster from my sketchbook.

#107

well heres my thing for today:
i made this sketch on a single layer yesteday for something about 40 mins

then i worked on it for about 2.5-3 hrs and this is what i got :

and a close up on the crit cuz i think itll be abit easier to understand or to interpretant the pic :
[b]

i wanted to somehow generate a feel that this crit isnt a bad one although he looks like it and that hes coming there to either hide from the coldness of the rain or something else *maybe hes hunted or something) and well you can interpretant it in many differnt ways  there isnt alot of investment here it was just an attmpt to generate a certain feel or a certain compo

c&c are more then welcomed

Simon, your program starts tomorrow. this is what I want you to do in the next coming 3 days (it’s gonna be boring but try to stay with me): general silhouette.

you have 6 hours a day. How to spend it, it’s up to you. Here are the “guidelines”:

  1. the silhouettes should show sex, age, but not race.
  2. the silhouettes can be naked, half naked, full dressed.
  3. the silhouettes should be front view or three quarter view.
  4. the silhouettes should NOT have big accessories like bag, skate board, weapon etc
  5. the silhouettes should only have standing poses, no extreme action pose like jumping, running.

do as many as possible, update daily for 3 days. pm me if you have any questions. Have fun.

work in progress…

i give 3 red for LOVE, 2 red for like, 1 red for no comment, 0 red for dislike.comment below.

in general, i like female better than male (coz i’m a guy! j/k). the curve you are playing with female silhouette is very interesting, male ones are bit less.

based on your today’s progress, i adjusted the plan for tomorrow. These are what I want you to focus on:

  1. I don’t want to see silhouette that tells the character’s career. In another word, I don’t want to see boxer, warrior, anything like that. I like what you did with the coat, the business suit. there are a lot more you can do, like vest with baggie pants. Anyway, no career silhouette, focus on generic.

  2. I want to see some height changing. something like this
    but only in silhouette.

  3. mix your characters. line them up with different sex and height. You definitely can play with the body type of your silhouette, but keep in mind your readability is priority. If over focus on the fatness of the silhouette causing reduction of readability, then don’t try too hard.

Also let me know how long did it take you, over all, and proximity each character so I can adjust your program further more. oh and btw, keep your image under 700px width. there’s no need to post big.

Today’s practice:

#115

here’s my today’s work. I took pictures of people I know in different poses with casual outfits. Is it ok? 7 hours total with image gathering and research and 25 to 35 minutes per silhouette.

Nice to have access to Donglu’s drawings

#116

everything looks good, except 5th one. It’s just way too busy. Were you doing a trace/paint over? if so, try not to.

today’s summary:

  1. not enough age difference (the guys are all under 25, the gals are no more than 35.) Keep in mind.
  2. 25 to 35 minutes per one is too slow.

tomorrow’s plan: 15 minutes per silhouette, 8 male, 8 female. 8 = (child, young, mid, old)x2. That’s 16 x 15 minutes = 4 hours. (which leaves 2 hours for research)

Good progress today. Can you handle tomorrow’s challenge?

alright that was the end of class one.

here comes class two: career silhouette
get many careers as possible: engieer, researcher, constructor, you name it. I’d like to see as less pose as possible.

i will pm you this evening with your class one review.
