im designing a website and i have a wierd problem. i attach a movie clip contaning text and a pair of buttons to scroll. in this movie clip is a movie clip with text in it, a mask rectangle, and the buttons. the rectangle is just masking the text. i had the text in the other movie clip set to static text and it was running pretty slow, and then i figured out that setting it to dynamic text is how most people do it, plus the user gets to select it in the interface. but when i change it to dynamic text, it doesnt show up when i run it. i dont get it. if this isnt clear ill post the file but if someone knows why id be very greatful. thanks in advance
dynamic text disappears
ok i figured out how to do what i want, but since im runnin this at 60fps, the .scroll += 1 makes the sucker scroll mad fast, any way to slow it? .5 doesnt work as a value.
heh completely off topic…but do you own the screaming pussy record\cd ??? and could you send me some mp3s if you do ???
pretty please
i wasnt aware there was one. however if you havent checked out the new clips on www.deftonesworld.com do so, it sounds awesome. back to the topic, the file runs great on mine but on a mac sloooooooow. and its just scrolling text! why!?!?
Mac has framerate issues with the flash player. Always has. It’s better now, but still slower.
CNO, over at Flashkit is an expert on this subject:
When you set the fps of your movie to 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 or 20 it will playback on the Mac at around 15.6fps.
When you set the fps anywhere between 21-30 it will playback at 20fps.
set it between 31 and 59 it will playback at 30fps.
anything higher will playback at around 61fps.

“and its just scrolling text! why!?!?” Text is one of the most processor demanding things you can move in flash. There are a lot of anchor points to deal with and if your text is antialiased, there is a ton of math involved to smooth all those curves and angles.
Even if your movie is only 1 frame, the actionscript executes at the movie’s current framerate.
As far as not being able to use .5 as a value, I take it that 1 is your pixel increment for your scroller. I saw a similar problem on another board…their solution was to rewrite the actionscript and instead of using pixel increments, they used the total distance and divided it for a percentage move. Now, Flash can only move things in a minimum of 1 pixel increments, but for some reason, the way they did the math made flash treat the problem differently. You might pop over to flashkit and do a search for this problem…find out what their actual solution was.
Best of luck on this,
Dain
