Hi all,
What of them is the best format for import a poly mesh into A:M?
I have read something about quad DXF. Rhinoceros exports in that format and A:M seems to import fine.
What is the diference between quad DXF and the others?
Dxf, 3ds, Obj...?
Quad DXF is good, but doesn’t support materials, only the mesh.
Standard DXF, like 3DS, is based on tri-polys and is not good at all for A:M.
OBJ works but is a little more error proned due to all the hoops you have to jump thru when assigning materials (at least the last time I tried it, which was before Art Walesek wrote the new OBJ import/export)
Wings3D does a real good job of exporting simple models directly to A:M MDL format. Winged-edge geometry’s methods match those of A:M quite nicely (both like quads) just as they did for Nendo. I’ve seen some nice models that have come out of Nendo and imported into A:M with minimal fuss. Wings will even export 5-point polys as 5-point patches in A:M.
