DWIV - Mini Challenge #1 - War General Portraits 2D

#21

HI all! Looks like there’s some great work posted already! This is gonna be a fun one.
Here’s a quick sketch and color concept.

#22

I dont see anything wrong with his chin XD! Maybe make his mouth a little…sterner? (is that even a word lol XD!) I think he looks awsome

#23

Wow Rawad, i love those teeth you gave your guy. I love the angles they turn in at. jealous

#24

Cool. Finally started! Nice warm up for the big challenge. Good luck every body and let’s
have fun!

Here’s my first wip post for my general.

#25

This time Cgtalk are going to win.
This is my entry, its very wip at the moment, the suit of armor will probably change.

Thanks live2contage!

Update 01:

Feedback is more than welcome.

Rules question:
Are we allowed to incorporate photographic elements into our portrait (either on the character itself, or the background), or does it need to be all painted?

Sorry if I missed this, but I couldn’t find an answer to it anywhere.

Thanks,
Adam

A surprisingly kind soul (for her experiences) and seasoned tactician with a strong resolve for victory.

First Step: Pencil on paper - done
Next Step: Clean Drawing

I read the rules and theres seem to be a mistake… Your rules say, " Post your Work In Progress" is Manditory, in this thread…

Then in the next post you say, DO NOT post your Work In Progress in this thread!

So where do we post our work in progress?? In what thread?? Sorry for the dumb question!!

#30

You should look at his post a bit closer, it says DO post WIP in this thread, do NOT make a new thread.

Tibor, that’s looking really nice so far - you’re so fast! Only thing is, I’d suggest punching up the medals and maybe some other accents, to make sure he looks like a general and not just another soldier.

Great job everyone else, too. Good luck!

Here is my early, rough portrait I whipped-up for the big Mini-Competition.

Nice warm-up for the big competition to come.

Gatlingg - Outstanding drawing! That linework just makes me envious. And beyond just the great art, you’re really setting the bar for character background and development plan. Great approach all around. (And I was hoping to be the first person to submit a female General!)

Reklas - I love the fact that you’re going so Non-Standard with your approach, and I like the loose feel. Don’t tighten this up too much

Airflow - I really like the flow of the design you’ve put in, but I’m concnerned how it will be judged in regard to “Portraits”. There’s a ton of potential for it, but it might not be judged well if there’s too much emphasis on an action scene. Try moving the concept more toward a tradiitional sitting portrait to fit better with the concept criteria.

Rawwad - Holy Crap . 'nough said. (I really wish I had the vision for light and depth that you’ve displayed in this prelim.)

So for my part, here’s a quick concept that I hope to develop:

Here we go, just something quick to get me started. I’m going to print it out and continue to draw details over the top. Not sure of his name or story so far.

Great to see some excellent work already.

#38

Hi there, first time I enter a competition here. I’m going to work on a lion-man general, kind of early-medieval style. It won’t be the most original, but I hope you’ll like it.

OKMER: Nice work. It looks like he’s drinking beer through the nose
