This week, I have been mostly making…

                           Demon - Abomination.

When a victim is infected by a demon lord, the 'fusion' (in this case death/darkness) spreads through the body. It mutates and deforms the host, consuming their soul. Bones displace and merge becoming teeth and claws; leaving a formidable beast to pursue the death and destruction of it's masters' will. An identifying scar is left at the point of 'fusion' in the form of its master's denomination - Cgsociety.

I've been teasing the concept out with the help of a block model and volumetric sketching (thanks to 3DCoat). I'm happy with the overall sketch so far. Next is to add some 'weight' to the pose. I'll convert him to a poly mesh before long - seeing that time is moving fast.

Note: I've organised some temporary webspace whilst I sort out my usual ftp dumping-ground. Apologies for any inconvienience!

I had a rough image in my head of where I wanted to start, I just pushed it to find the look I was after. The concept evolved through experimentation and a ‘form-follows-function’ ethic based on the project constraints and my own thoughts. Everything was kept fluid and voxel sculpting meant I wasn’t tied to a base mesh in any way.

I like your proportions and design, but I am having a hard time understanding the details. They are a bit muddy, otherwise nice progress.

Agree with the above…

I like it alot, but the details around the face are pretty hard to understand. - But…that said Im not sure what you end plan is, so feel free to ignore me

Look forward to seeing more

Oh…and must try 3dcoat

Thanks guys. I’ve only been sketching at the mo, so no real details down yet. Just playing with ideas. It’s easier to see what’s going on in 3D, which will ultimatly change - else what’s the point!.

I’m stuck with an ongoing project that I need to finish over the next couple of days, meaning DW has to take a back seat for a bit.

Anyways, progress will follow soon and things will be made clearer.

Started playing with the pose, adding weight and presence to his stance. I’ll look it over again tomorrow with fresh eyes. The mesh is straight out of 3DCoat, given a very basic rig in Blender and ready for re-topo, providing I don’t want to move things about in the morning.

Blast! My webspace has decided to take some time out.
I’ll be back with more once it’s been resolved.

Watch this space…

Finally up and running again. At least, a solution has been met for the time being.

Not a huge amount been happning over the last week due to my nightmare project - this is now out of the way and Dominance is back in the driving seat.

I’ve started creating a low poly mesh and reducing down below the limit. Under so far but not as efficient as I want from a rig-able character. I’ll add images of it early next week once this has been rectified.

Do you ever have those projects that seem to be doomed?

Other projects get in the way and when you do find time everything you’ve done gets tainted by things out of your control.

If you’ve been there, you’ll understand why things are slow here. The low poly is nearly ready to post.

I’ve been using this project as an excuse to experiment with alternative techniques. I’ll go through some of those big 'ol mistakes at the end, for now I must model, sculpt and texture…

Something will be added this evening.

Fact.

Ok, Ok. So it gets uploaded today! UV’s and Low poly. I think thats all the technical stuff out of the way now - until I change something else. I hope to speed things up as we enter the final weekend and try to make some time to finish this thing. I anticipate a few changes and make some additions. So the UV’s aren’t completely fixed until the fat lady is wailing.

Looks like the buck stops here.

Sadly, there hasn’t been enough free time to dedicate to Dominance war and as such I have decided to continue outside of competition - at my own pace, between jobs. Here is a the result of about 1.5hrs playing with Mudbox. I started to notice all the bits I haven’t got in there yet and require to do the character justice. It may be a while before he gets finished, but I’ll post him when he does.

Good luck to all.
