DWIV - 3D - Sevv - Untitled

Thank you for the comments guys, however a change of direction for my DWIV entry. I came to the conclusion that my previous idea was not developed enough, I couldnt fully realise it as a finished character.

I have changed my concept:

A machine scout. I believe this idea has great potential, able to move around the landscape at great speed. The ‘wheel’ segments can be stored in his backpack so he can stand up right. I can imagine him speeding along, rolling over a bump in the terrain… in mid air the segments rotate to his pack and him landing on two feet ready for the war. I love like the idea of a holographic display which he uses to navigate.

This concept is much much clearer in my mind and considering the time frame of this competition I believe very achievable in the time left.

Ive quickly boxed modeled my concept, to see how it might all fit together. Im going to spend tonight figuring out a lot of the details etc.

How the character might look un wheeled… technical term there : ) Modeling worthy of the Dom War I think lol

The character can also compress the wheel to reduce his size, be more stealthy… get into smaller places… dont know. I look forward to developing it though!

#23

Hey Seven,

Like a lot your new concept, very original, the wheel idea sounds totaly cool! Your first concepts on that idea look great. Cant wait to see more updates! Cheers!!

#24

Thanks Ferx, glad you like it. Im going to start properly modeling it tomorrow, really looking forward to it. Just love it when im this enthusiastic about something im doing, always turns out better for it.

#25

The beginnings of my character, ive started with the head. Figuring out a ‘realistic’ mechanism so it appears the individual neck pieces can rotate, move was fun. Look forward to doing more but need a break

Still very much a work in progress.

Need to think of a name…

#26

Cool head design! I like the details. I like the concept/idea alot.

Keep it up  Make it good enough for Dom War 4.5 :stuck_out_tongue:

Lets win this thing!

#27

Thanks XTitan, appreciate it! Another small update, worked on his eye and started the organic backbone that will lead into the characters muscles. A rough sculpt but gets the idea across, Im going to add some tendons or similar to connect the organic to the machine.

#28

Started figuring out how the organic anatomy would blend into the synthetic.

Lots more to do… but dinner time now

#29

Ive been working on my characters hip for lack of a better word. I want the feeling that when the lights are off you can almost imagine theres some sort of reactor inside.

#30

Started to work on the wheel segments:

#31

you got some cool ideas and a great design for this machine scout… love the new design!
those angles in which you showed before, for a second i thought it was a roller coaster and then i realised it was a robotic scout…Great going! your modeling skills are awesome! looking forward for more updates

#32

Thanks namnocilis, appreicate it! A rollercoaster, cool… never looked it at like that before : ) One last image before I turn in for the night, just loads of small tweaks really:

Going to start working on his backpack tomorrow, I still havent quite decided upon the detail for the inner wheel segments yet but a change is as good as a break.

#33

Worked on the wheel segments today, definatly happy with what ive got so far! Think I need to add more detail to the actual track, but time to move onto other parts:

Please ignore the colour scheme, makes it easier to model with strong gastly colours : )

My scouts weapon fires flash grenades, to blind his opponents and make a speedy escape. Each wheel segment holds 6 / 8 grenades, as they pass through the backpack it reloads the gun.

Hello, thanks for stopping by my thread!
Woah, man what detailwork you’ve put into this. I don’t know how long I kept watching your images, looking at all those details.
Feel sorry for the human that had to sacrifice himself to be the driver on it though. :frowning:

I will keep an eye on this for sure! :buttrock:

#35

hey jon!

great to see something new from you.

Izuael - Always try to give feedback to others when I get the time, appreicate it!

rasmusW - Thank you

One minor issue I had with my design was its crouch. The backpack shape didnt work for both crouched and walk / run… definatly imaginging this in some sort of FPS

I could have changed the packs shape but I really like the fluid flow of the circle. So, today I figured out a solution. Its far from finished but the overall ideas there.

When his wheel shrinks to allow him access to smaller places the fan, for lack of a better word, is fully up. When hes running and gathering intel at max speed the fan is lowered. I really want the design to maximise the Scouts brief, speed, quick get away etc.

I also like this idea as the movement of the sections should give him more personality, they could maybe show his mood. Needs experimenting with! I can really detail the inner workings of his pack aswell, fun  Im also really looking forward to moving onto the organic parts, really go to town with Zbrush. Seeing all the amazing sculpts on the forums I cant wait to take a shot at it myself.

#37

oh jeah! I cant wait to see everything come together

#38

me 2, your rocking out!

#39

Thanks for your comments guys! Ive been sooo busy with work this week I havent had the chance to update my thread. Ive been working on the organic parts and a few normal map tests on the wheel segments.

Update soon!

#40

Here we go, just to prove I have been working

Awesome colours ay! Ive managed to get each segment down to 450 tris, so the entire wheel will be under 4k leaving me 6k for the character. There really is a fine line between awesome high poly machine modeling and awesome high poly machine modeling that will work on a normal map. The mapping looks ok, theres a few issues I need to address but nothing that cant be easily fixed.

Ill hopefully get some more of the organic elements modeled this weekend, but with my brother visiting im not too sure. Tried to think of a good line about how close the deadline seems to be but nothing came to mind
