DWIV - 3D - kaftan - Dogbot

First off Id like to say that I think the settign and so-called backstory of this contest is complete and utter rubbish. Magic elves fighting robots and evil zbrushogres in the depth of space…with lasers. I would have made some poke at firstgraders doing a better job, but that would neither be fair nor correct; only adults can think up something this bad.

Now with that out of the way; here is my contribution in its basic state.

He’s a sneaky one this fellow. Disguised as a humble and nonthreatening oil drum, he can infiltrate deep into enemy territory where he ejects his limbs and head through hatches and runs away. His drumlike construction also means an added advantage in that he can carry a large quantity of fuel with him, in order to power his internal 2-stroke petro-oil mix engine for longer missions.

Im having a bit of trouble spending the last bit of the poly budget, I suppose the head could use alot more detail but Im kind of stuck creatively.

Im in the middle of texturing, theres just a very rough diffuse with baked AO thus far. Experimentet a bit with a podium and lighting

This is actually the most different idea I have seen by far.:thumbsup: Does it have like some LCD eyes? You could put alot of neat expression in the eyes.

Thats a great idea! Like C3PO or the treausure planet robot. I had originally just planned to do something fisheye-googly-esque but this would also give me a great excuse to use a glowmap.

And I tried to do a wicked zbrushmonster like all the cool kids, but I couldnt… they scare me :frowning:

Dogbot is now all textured and lit, its just postwork left to touch up the beauty shot. I had planned a more elaborate pedestal, and maybe Ill do that if I have time

very creative idea. With this disguise he can go everywhere. The thing I like most is the bulb tail and the cool expression in his eyes.
Funny idea with this museum like sign at the pedestrial, too.
It´s a pity not more people trying to make something completely different.
