Ok, time to dive into the battlefield.

Latest Update

Good Luck everyone

#2

ok here are the first few concept images I did this weekend.

Like a lot of people I discovered the fun of Alchemy right before DW4 so I gave it a try
It’s really a fun tool

At first I was going to do a demon prince or Lord, but it seems like a lot of people will do those and probably way better than I would have, so I’ll try something else :stuck_out_tongue:

Demon doodles

so now is a Norm Warlord concept
a kind of WereRabbit with for arms

Rough Silhouette

And a quick more detailed concept

As for the story I need to work on it a bit.
He use the two upper arms to wield his sword while the lower ones are used to reload his weapon, parry attacks and smoke during fights.
His weapon is a huge magical blade that use “Fairy Shells” to get power. Basically, his motto his why bother learning magic when you can just squeeze it out of pixies.
Captured pixies are put into special glass containers and then inserted into the barrel of the sword, like bullets in a revolver. Then when the trigger is pushed the fairy is compressed into an explosive and deadly (for both the enemy and the fairy, unfortunately as pixies are slightly unwilling to get caught, which makes the ammunitions quite bothersome to resupply)

Please feel free to comment on any thing you feel is bad, wrong, worse or even remotely interesting

I really like your ideas!
Although i’m not too crazy about the second pair of arms, they look too human like.
I think palms should be a little bigger. And “pixie-powered” sword is a very interesting idea but maybe you could work some more on the blade shape itself.
I’m looking forward to the next updates.

p.s. I apologise for my bad English.

Hey Eric,

Really nice sketches and concepts. Like your back story for your character  Maybe a bit biger torso for your character ( Like the design on the right corner of your last update) and the ears on non vertical position, to put a dynamic and agresive touch to the head, only a comment  Waiting for more updates on your concept! Cheers mate !!

Nice sketches… I liked the B1 rough sketch, it is very threatening… the detailed sketch looks more like a cool fighting dude warlord, liked the weapon…
Just the thought that those pixies are going to be hurt too is bothering me since pixies are Norms too and we are supposed to be killing Demons and Machines…:scream:
anyways, Good start… waiting to see updates

Hey man. I really like your first thumbs. Some qualitys in the bunny sketch is very nice also! Though the further it went from the thumbs, next image, then the modell it seemed like you lost more of those nice shapes from the thumbs on the way. I’d suggest when you pick a thumbs, enhance the shapes and improve on what is already there. But make them stronger. I do think you have some really nice stuff in here for sure, I’d only wish you’d make use of the qualitys you’ve got better… Just some suggestions. Keep up the good work!

Thanks guys for the feedback it really helps

Belian - I know what you mean about the arms. I plan to change the shape when I start the modeling, I just used a base mesh and duplicated the arms to try out the proportions and draw the clothes on. Thanks for the input, it’ll help me not to be lazy and just keep human like arms
For the sword I kind of like the basic shape of the blade, I’ll try to refine it but I really want to avoid the “WOW” syndrome of completely improbable shape of blades

Ferx - yep I’ll probably go with broader shoulders and a slightly thinner waist
I’ll give your suggestion a try for the ears, thanks

namnocilis - B1 was probably more beast-like. I’ll try to go back to it
and don’t worry, before making then explode he treat his fairies almost not to roughly and if they behave nicely he can even even be inclined to treat them to a slice of carrot
And anyway most of the pixies are too carefree to realize they are going to go in a bang, they see it as the ride of their life (a rather short one I must add)

FrozZT - hehe you’re hitting the nail where it hurts
you are 100% true, I kind of lost the freshness of the sketches when I try to refine the concept. I’ll go back one step and try to do it again. Thanks for the advice

BTW if anyone think I should have developed another sketch in the first bunch of concepts, just tell ne so, it would leave me with a back up plan if I get stalled|Bored with Mr. bunny

I agree I like the first set of thumbnails more than the others. However I like the first concept on your second page of thumbs.

I do have one gripe about this concept with some 3d/ the smoking character.
And don’t hate me because of it, but I feel like I’m looking at Cloud from Final Fantasy 7, with a second set of arms, bigger legs, and a cigar, holding Squall’s gunblade from Final Fantasy 8. Between the strange sweater-vest type thing you have going on (that cloud also dons in his Soldier First Class Uniform). the shoulder pad, and the wrapped wristbands, (reminiscent of Cloud from Kingdom Hearts) it feels kind of like a lot of borrowed ideas from previous characters. Which isn’t always a bad thing, however I feel if you’re going to derive your ideas from other characters, to change them up enough where we can feel where you got the concept from, and not just taking it directly from those characters.

I was going to post some images of where I can see the similarities, but I feel that would be rude to do that, and would be insulting to your art, which is exactly what I don’t want. I just wanted you to be aware that some people might take it more personally and feel you’re borrowing ideas? I’m not sure.

But I do like the idea of the character in the tank top that you have sketched out. Kind of like a angry bunny/hellboy kind of thing going on. I say keep going with this.

haha, don’t worry I"m not taking it badly. Unfortunately now that you mention it I see most of the similarities you’re mentioning X_X
Better knowing it now than during the final render the night of the deadline

I’ll restart doing stuff from a previous step and try to back off from my Japanese influences, even though they are mostly unconscious
