I have requested this emergency meeting of The Society for a pressing matter that has come to our attention in these heated days of this Fourth Dominance War…

Our covert operatives have managed to intercept a top-secret, encrypted surveillance transmission from one of the Robot worlds that have given us new reason for concern.

Four days ago, we detected a new inter-dimensional warp ruptured into our space near the surface of the Robot Planet 1478.3. Our scans then showed a massive blast of Death Darkness energy on the surface to a distance of 300 meters. From the center of blast; and moving in one direction, a path of physical destruction was torn across the face of one of their major production centers.

After a period of what we calculate to be only 18 minutes and some 8 kilometers later, another blast radius of Darkness energy was emitted. The second was 1.4 times larger than the first. The object at the center of this damage then; we assume, re-entered a warp tear and left our dimension.

The only salvageable segment of video footage we have of what entered our space is shown here.

Due to its massive size, we can only assume this is one of the upper echelon of Demon Lords, possibly an Overlord.

We are continuing to investigate the situation.

Scouts were able to get into the damaged area on the Robot Planet and retrieve small samples of genetic material, skin, chitin and bone.

Using DNA and genome destruction and reconstruction we were able to recreate what this Demon Lord might look like in its entirety:

We remain surprised, as none of these combinations look exactly like the beast in the liberated video segment.

We are still working on it. We will keep you informed.

Our telepaths have begun hearing the voices of the new threat in their minds.
It identifies itself as both a female-gendered Overlady and calls itself “Consumption.” Whether “Consumption” is its actual name or an untranslatable aspect of its being is unknown. Also whether Consumption refers to tuberculosis or the act of consuming is unknown as well.

After intercepting further information and video footage from the Demon attack on the Robots and material samples, we were able to create a better image of the Demonic threat.

It is more terrifying than we could have imagined:

The threat is roughly 190’ at the shoulder and 290’ to the top of its head. Its tonnage and displacement cannot be calculated, but it is obviously massive.

It has a hard chitinous body, a massive digestive orifice at its base with whiplike tentacles drawing prey into a cavernous maw and gullet, larger tentacle on its sides for offensive attacks and a tail with massive pincher on the end.

In all of the received telepathic messages it has our Society’s logo imposed on its skull. This can only further give us confirmation of its intentions of attacking us next.

We have begun to ready ourselves for the possibility of the Overlady’s approach.

The threat we have understood to this point as being called The Overlady Consumption has arrived. We are all doomed.

It is far worse than we could have imagined.

In addition to its huge mass, unparalleled strength and blinding speed, it emits a field of Death Darkness energy that is instantly rotting every living thing in a wide radius with disease and some kind of corrosive magic we have never seen before. The effects of this magic could not have been observed from its earlier attack on the Robot Empire planet for obvious reasons.

It is in all of our minds and we know its intents and it knows our fears.

I had a few people ask me how I decided on the design for Consumption.

I was inspired by the little dragon images in our logo in that they have smooth snouts and spikes coming off their backs. I like that they are little dragon-like creatures that don’t bear teeth.

I was inspired by the overall shape and design of our logo as well. The top view mimics the general shape of the logo somewhat as does the front. I started sketching ideas looking at what I had in front of me. The wings/spikes, the tail…

Mostly, I wanted to make something entirely non-human in appearance.

Someone had recently asked me to draw a pegasus and I think some of that got in there with the horse’s upright stance and concept drawings of wings. I guess my final design evolved as some kind of evil pegasus… a concept that on the face of it doesn’t seem that particularly terrifying.

The lobster and scorpion contributed the chitinous shell, tail and claws. The levering action of the claws extended to the design of the venus fly trap and something about the underlying theme of eating made its way into the design with mandibles and the mosquito’s proboscis becoming the tendrils along the way.

I will be posting some early WIP pieces to illustrate the process along the way.
