Stefano: Thank you for passing by, I wasn’t getting a lot of help, and if it wouldn’t be for those who have, I don’t know where I’d be so thanks to all!
I didn’t really get what you said
you think I need more fusion? I was feeling all happy with myself, looks like I need to push it harder. So far I’ve studied merging a grizzly bear, lion, tiger, wolf, reptilish (haven’t started working on the texture on the skin), and human. I do want there to be a lot of harmony. I want the final illustration to have a warm renascent feel to it, with a modern magical flavor. I any case if you have some time to help me understand a little better what you felt, it would be a big favor I would appreciate. Tks again hermano (brother)!

Gerardo: q buena onda viejo, gracias por pegarte una vuelta. Somos pocos y tenemos q hacer quedar bien and los sudacas
ja!
I wanted this to be a surprise, but last night there was a drastic shift in the story line, and now this dude is the pet of a 10 year old girl
oh!
She’s an orphan that was adopted by an old wizard, when he died she received the power of her master and the ability to invoke his spirit. I’m exited about the idea
dose it break any rules? Big hug friend, your stuff is kicking ass, keep it bad.

Hey Daniel, the last sketch is really good, I like the upper body and it’s composition, very dynamic. There are two things that bothers me:

  1. There is this impression that his legs are a bit small for him. (The feet is ok)
  2. Something with the pose and composition of the lower body. Perhaps it’s because his lower body is somewhat unnaturaly bent backwards? hmmm… hard to explain… my english isn’t so good XD

If i were you i would also add some more things to this creature. Perhaps horns on his head, fur on his back, add some bracelets + tattoos. These things would make him look a bit more powerful and menacing. and also would give this creature some more character. And if you are going for that menacing expression then perhaps change your creatures eyes into white perhaps even glowy tone. But thats just a thought. make of it what U wish, i hope it gives u some ideas to play with.

Keep up the good work and good luck mate!

Armand : Wow! So much feed back in little time, this is a prayer come true, thank you!
About his legs, I think your right, maybe I can make them look stronger, I don-t want to make them bigger because it would weaken the design (everything would look big), Ill keeping working on it then.
The long torso was to give him that bend to add to the dramatic pose, dose it look wrong? I-ll try and play with it. About the other stuff (I call it the hot sauce or rock’n roll), I’ll start adding it once there is harmony in the body (it’s a temptation to jump into the fun stuff). I like your ideas and was planing on doing some of the ones you mentioned. I’ll use tiger stripes to give the effect of tribal tattoos, his arms and legs will have dragon skin for armor, and he’ll have 3 crystals jutting out of his jest. But in general I want to keep it simple. Once again thank you for your useful council, I’ll get to work and may the Divine power assist you in your work, it’s looking wield! :buttrock:

Hey Daniel. Things are comin along here. Good job. Another crit on the legs, though. If he was jumping in the air, his feet would be extended up, flowing in the same direction as his legs, and not bent toward the ankle like they are now. This might make the legs look a little better. The legs may be a bit too bent underneath him too, but see how it looks if you change the feet and I guess judge from there.

#46

Hola Daniel, I like that new story way better . As far as I know, it would be ok with the rules, but I think you would have to make the girl the main character (clericon, invoker?) and this guy her pet. I’m not too sure if you can do it the other way round…
Just remember to include them both in you modeling sheet.

Arriba el talento sudaca!

Raz: thanks for taking your time and taking a look. Your right about the legs, they just look wrong, I’m a total armature trying to capture action so yeah, I’ll have to work on it. I want him to look like his coming down for the kill, so the back foot is flowing with the leg and the front one is getting ready to come down. That was the idea anyhow. I’m not going to get to stuck on it because I don’t even know if I’ll use this image
no se. But thanks and stick around I need all the help I can get, and I wish I would have gone to art school, maybe you can teach me a thing or 2, big hug bro.

Gerardo: Viva! Che escuchame, acá te paso un poco de reference para q te mates de la risa.
Yeah I think I’m going to settle for a pet, don’t know. He’s suppose to be the sprit of her dead master and she’s invoking him to fight for her. I guess that could count as a pet?!? Anyhow keep it up brother, you chick is looking so hot  .

#48

hey daniel!, is that you in those reference shots? i agree with the comment on the foot there, maybe you can set it up in a more extreme way like compressing a little more and plated on the wall and the left one coming down relaxed… i hope you figure out what you are going to do but i like the over all form of the character.

ill check out later what you come up with, keep it up man

#49

Hey Daniel, yes it was about time to visit your thread, after your bunch of feedback, sorry
Actually I have been watching your steps a few times, but I coudn’t support you with feedback for that beast cause it seems to be finished like it is. You know, its kind of a werewolf or so in traditional way, and it’s good how it is, but for the challenge I would wish some features which aren’t consolidated in the mind of the viewer yet as much as a werewolf. Give us some things to look at we didn’t know in this context or we didn’t know at all. Maybe you could add some patterns to his body, or hair, or cover parts with fabrics with interesting patterns on them… what ever you will make, try to go further then just a beast that is reduced to muscles and claws.

I stay tuned!

#50

Hello there

I agree that this creature very easy could be a werewolf. It’s not a problem, but I think, it could be more interesting to see your own unique version of this beast. I think a more extreme look could help on that. yakonusuke has a good suggestion on that, I think. I can see that in some areas, the skin already looks a bit rough and chaotic. You can build on that.

Sergio: que mas man, gracias por pasarte una vuelta! Yeah my leg needs a lot of work so I’ll be working on some thumbnails to find a good pose, or maybe just use this one with more work, se how much time I have, I’m falling behind. And keep up the good work over there, it’s looking good  yeah thats me

yakonusuke: hey bro, you didn’t tell me what your friends call you. Anyhow thanks for dropping by, and no problem, I know you’ve got your stuff but I also know I need help
ha! I’m new here so just trying to make new friends and get to know people.
You mentioned a real good point, I don’t give a lot of space for participation. As I said I’m new, this would be my third completed cg piece and I’m real slow so I don’t have time to give so many options like you do, so sad but I think I’ll be up to the task next time. Well here’s what I’ve got so far, probably will leave it simple and not to many props, I spent 5 hours working on fur, designs and I didn’t like it so… that’s that  . This would be a tentative pose for the illustration, what do you think? Big hug chau amigo. your stuff is taking a great turn, you’ve got the stuff  .

Hola Daniel, pasaba para ver en qué andabas. Since the beginning you’ve been asking for advice and I think your work has room for improvement, I’ll try to give you some tips from what little experince I have.

First, when one is starting out, its easy to get carried away with the excitement and try to get everything done in your first sketch: general anatomy, character design, value study, color study, persepective, pose, detail, feel, and so forth. That’s not the best way to go when one has little experince, cause it’s too overwhelming (sabés lo que dicen, el que mucho abarca poco aprieta) and the quality of your work drops.

So my advice would be: start easy, with just line drawings of your characters in a neutral pose, and using a simple angle (side, front), so that you don’t have to worry about perspective. On that base, you can start to build up the design, and its like you are teaching yourself how to draw the character. Once you feel confident about drawing it from simple angles, then go on to perspective, and once you’ve done that you can start worring about the pose and feeling. I’m not trying to critisize your pose studies, which were good, but i think it’s too early for them.
It’s definetly more laborious and a bit boring to do all these steps, but taking babysteps is a sure way to improvement. So try to pace yoursef and get back to the basics!

Espero que te sirva mi pequeño consejo, te lo digo por experiencia propia, muchísimas veces he tratado de hacer todo de una, y finalmente uno no logra transferir la idea que tiene en la cabeza al papel y termina odiando sus propios diseños.

Hope I wasn´t too harsh. Best of luck my friend!

#53

nice,i do like the photo-taking’s idea
it inspire me to do some wild idea to inject to my concept

#54

Hey Daniel,

Like a lot your new direction on the concept, I think that have great potential  Maybe you need to explore a bit more the design for Florence, only a comment  but the idea is really great  Cheers

#55

I think you can try to put more contrast between the little girl and the monster, size, textrue action and so on. And the girl looks a little normal.Keep doing, you have made great changes~

#56

Hey Daniel, yes its Jakob how my friends call me. ; ) I’ve heard it’s Santiago or Tiago in spanish…

I agree with GaeasHerald, that you would benefit if you keep the characters simpel in the
designstage. No perspective, simpel shading and so on… just like he depicted it.

But I think this update goes in the right direction! I like the idea of the child summoning that beast. Would be also cool what Ferx discribes in the encoded spanish part  With the transforming and the same necklace on the girls neck. Try to get both together with some
design similaritys. And the girl needs more stuff on her! Arms and legs are to empty I think.

You’re doing great! Get some inspration for the clothes and accessoires and this concept will rock!

Latest!
I feel so suported by so many amigos  (touching moment…sorry about that)
I spent all day yesterday at work think about everything you all have been telling me, your tips, counsel and advice, I was trying to figure out how to apply it and keep harmony in the character. Anyhow all your help has been a driving force and has helped me reach higher.

If you like what you see it’s really thanks to all your help  , and the Devine anointing that comes to all who seek it. Thanks again and I’ll write to those I haven’t answered when I come back from work. Thanks again big hug to all the amigos! And now that the tequila man paid a visit we can all have a round, adentro!

WOw daniel, de que me perdi? lol!

i love how the beast is coming out, also the summoner but the beast really catches my attention the most :bounce:

#59

Very cool dude! Love how the little girl has a huge creature do her bidding! Wonderful contrast! Keep it up! Can’t wait to see more!

Martin: Que mas (whats up) Martin! Thanks for taking a look, it-s real cool to get all this support and positive pressure to push. Hope you like the new concept, tried to implement your tips and ideas. Big hug man, and get ready for the show down, my little girls has got some wired powers, she’s a little off her rocker  so watch out

Gerardo: Sos un ídolo Ger! That was some kick ass advise :buttrock: and just what i needed to hear, you have no idea how much it helped me :arteest: . I was really frustrated and yeah just stuck :banghead: , so when I got home yesterday I slapped on some underoath and started from scratch, and I’m quit exited about the results. This whole process is totally new to me, I just got into cg at the end of last year, and never studied art so I feel a little lost sometimes  .
So anyhow it’s great to know I can count on you telling what I need to hear, I think the progress made I thanks to you guys so if we ever meet up, the cold one is on me  , big hug man.
