aelwine: thanks! I was having that problem when coloring wasnt sure what light source I should emphasize on, so I guess I just thru in light everywhere. What light source should I have used? The one from the main turban?
I dont have a formal art education, I just started taking things more seriously last year, so I have a lot to learn, if you want to stick around and throw in some C&Cs whenever you have time it would be great, thanks again!

Ok, I took some time to make a quick overpaint that might help you, I hope you won’t mind.
It’s by no means perfect and a lot of people would probably come with different and better way of doing it, but here it is :

btw to check your lighting, I encourage you to check the values by turning your illustration to B&W, like what I did on the right side, it helps see the values more clearly, without the colors getting in the way.
on a global scale what I did was reduce the area of effect of all your sources of light, meaning that now you’ve real zones of darkness, like under the armpits, on the sides of the torso, the upper part of the legs, etc.

Like a lot the new direction of your concept, the last sketches looks really cool! I think you can make a big torso and really huge arms, a bit on “perezoso” style with big claws, and stance a bit like a gorila. Here some references images:

Maybe you can try a some strange armor for the character, like a turtle shell or a big crab shell

I get up at 4:45am everyday to play some DW, before I go to work, and I saw your post, so that was and extra moral boost, and I finished what I was going to post mañana, so this one is for you Fer
and thanks again. This guy is actually like an old human wizard that transforms when he enters combat. SO I want to maintain strong human features and muscle structure and at the same time make him different looking
but with harmony. Tell me what you think I varied in the different poses a little to play around with the design. Hope you like it pal

Love the direction you’re taking with this new character. It’s like… tigersaraus rex or something. Good stuff…
As for the human character. I think the design overall isn’t bad, it’s a little sleek and too well armored… if that makes sense.
A question is raised here though, what class of norm is he? Let us know his background so we can help nudge him in a definite direction.
I’d like to see a full background of this character, and then lets see what we can see.

I like the black arm one, the sauropod looks good but too benevolant, needs to be more raw.
Robert: thanks for dropping by. I agree with you all the way, and I think the design is stronger in that one as well with longer arms and such. He is a kind wizard and loves walking alone in the woods communing with the spirit in the wind, but his character is very explosive, especially when a little daemon snatches his lunch bag.

nice stuff, i like the hard edged plane cuts there… watch out for a good hybridation between the anatomy of a man and the tiger, dont leave it only to the arms and head… BTW what happened with the tech soldier?

Anyway, you’re doing a good job and the anatomy studies are coming along very well. If I might make a suggestion, I didn’t realize this was meant to be a metamorph until I read the description, so it may be a good idea to show a transition between the two forms, or some other element to aid the storytelling. For instance, after the transformation the human form could appear as a glowing aura around the beast… dunno, guess you can find better ways to get the idea across. ![]()
I’ll definetly will be keeping an eye on this thread.
