here is my update, after played with some basic shape, i decide to choice the shape D to develop on my demon prince. I wish to give him a totally new look from my previews sketch, atleast from the sillhoutte it look different…To keep him on the same demon race, i only use the human structure on his face and upper body, the lower body part i mix it with other organic structure. And off course, i use back one of my previews sketch on the upper body which i think is quite suitable for this demon.

After look back at the rules for demon classes, i m not sure my last idea sketch is still under the right category- demon prince which need human-like or alien-like characteristics. Because i only keep the face and upper body look like human, I wish it is still under demon prince category, if not i may need reconsider which category it belongs to, what you guys think?

Hey derrick! Thought I’d drop by in your thread aswell, and man, you really have a nice and solid style! Reading some of the comments, I agree with them that you should try to break away from the stuff you submitted in the minicomp, and try to get a new perspective on things.

You might even want to consider something drastic, like switching your character from male to female, or even switching classes. Also, I browsed through your portfolio, and noticed a heavy emphasis on asian characters, features and culture…which makes me want you to forbid doing anything that has to do with anything asian! :smiley: Basically, just for the sake of exploring other directions and prevent you repeating yourself. Nevertheless, I’m confident you’ll work it out, and will defenitely keep following your progress!

By the way, I really dig those almost abstract thumbs, I’ve never seen someone do thumbs like this! If possible could you post some Wip images between that thumb and the linesketch that followed? And is it all digital? Just curious! :smiley:

rhemrev - hi Edwin, thanks for your feedback, you’ve given me some helpful points which i will take note and apply for my concept art soon. You had mentioned to change the character from male to female, which i think this is a very good idea, i never think to draw a female character before…Actually i m trying hard to change my character style from my first post till the last one, i wish to find out a suitable and new style for this competitions, and therefore i appreciate your suggestions on my art work.

As for the thumbsnail to the sketch, others had asked the same question as well, so i did a progress gif file for the new character. i drew it on photoshop, and it is fully digital

Lovely sketches in this thread, and I’m digging the way the last few sketches are heading. Not sure he still counts as a demon prince, as you mention… maybe he could be reclassed as a norm of some description? He almost has a warlordish feel to him, if you could beef him out a bit more, and make the lower part of him some kind of steed?

But your technique is lovely, i envy your smooth linework to say it’s digital!

wow! the concept has changed a lot from what i had seen before… the last sketch is awesome! but i think that gill kind of thing on his back is making it feel like a norm, i suppose

hey, really like the balance you’ve got in your character, the natural / flesh vs mechanical / armoured sections work really well.

I dont think he needs to get any ‘beefier’ as he’s only a prince and he has got a regal feel to his pose. i think you just need to take him darker, more evil, with more tentacles or maybe some sort of trophy rack…?

I think, you have got already several sketches for other illustrations.
But I would not care that much about the rules according to the look of his upper part or the part below. For I think, demons might be mixed up with other creatures in their evolution under demonic influence. So being one half human-like, the other half already converted.
