same image, now in fabulous color! enjoy:

went ahead and modeled the gun tonight. Haven’t done any UVs yet, this is just bare geometry with the default maya shaders on it. 908 tris.

#11

OMG now that looks great:) I like that female with hat more as compared to female with horns. Great going:thumbsup:

#12

Cow-girls with big guns are always a good thing. Definately stick with the hat.

#13

what about a hat, AND horns? i’ve not gotten to the character itself yet, so there’s still time…

#14

started working on the body today, no head or wings just yet though.

#15

Worked a bit on the overall muscletone, also added a head and wing. Still need to put some time into the hand and optimize my geometry all over, and then i’ll mirror the geometry and make sure the general proportions are doing ok.

#16

nice work in progress, it’s coming along nicley.

#17

Thanks! Looking at everyone else’s so far, i have to admit i’m getting a little intimidated…but it’s all good. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

#18

playing with shaders a little bit…still just the built in maya stuff.

Hi, great work so far! Interesting attitude your character got in the concept!

I agree that looking at the elite’s work can be intimidating, I felt that too. But hey, to survive the competition and continue to finish the thing is a courageous achievement!

Just yet another noob’s comments but hope you don’t mind: I just notice that maybe that the side view can get a bit of posture and proportion fix. Right now it seems that the torso is bulging forward together with the breast. The legs may get more curvy especially in the lower area.

Here’s my paintover:

And maybe you can create another edge loop on the waist so that she can replicate the pose she’s doing in the concept.

Hope this can be of any help!

all comments totally welcome, thanks for taking the time! I think you’re right, the general proportions are a little off for sure. I’ve done some test mirrors to see how she’s going to look, and she’s very wide. This is really only my fourth or fifth serious attempt at a model, so i’m definitely still learning.

#21

here’s the current side view by the way:

I’m not sure if it was clear in that older one, but i modeled her with the corset top and boots on, instead of doing the nude figure and adding clothes to it. It seemed expedient to do it this way since the character didn’t need to change outfits or anything. Now that i’m looking at it, since she’s a half-dragon, i wonder if she shouldn’t also have a vestigial tail?

I’m a little bummed out, i made a bump map for the rifle details, and i’ve determined that it’s dimensions just aren’t right to showcase all the filagree details i was hoping to use. It’s just too narrow. I was planning to sort of bank on the artifact being super cool, and that one just isn’t going to cut it for me. Back to the drawing board i suppose…

#23

crisis averted. I turned it into a crystal powered hand-cannon. That’s the same bump i was going to use on the rifle, i’m thinking i’ll just redo it, rather than try to make it work.

much happier with this one now.

Nice start on character modeling Dude. Are U planning for z-sculpting or adding details in Maya. Rightnow the character looks quiet lowpoly, If You are not planning for sculpting and all that, then you can add more polys to your model. Just a suggestion:) The bump map on that Gun looks cool. later on U can add glow to those crystals on back.

#27

The plan for right now is to keep the model as low poly as possible, and take it into zbrush. It’s still under 4,000 tris (assuming it were mirrored). I’m used to making low-poly models for short game projects, so its kind of a habit at this point. I was fooling around with adding effects to the crystals, i made them translucent and put a spotlight in there with a low intensity but as you can see it didn’t really do anything super cool. I also added some incandescence, but it didn’t do anything amazing either. I think i want them to be more purple and not so pink also. Maybe once I make a spec map for it…
