Ya I’m going to on his right arm like in the sketch but keep his left arm bulky to throw around his massive weapon. Right now I’m just working symmetrically in zbrush though, I will do the assymetrical stuff after I have the UV’s basically laid out and stuff.
DWIII - 3D - valri22 - Lord of the Ents
you entish bastard!! I thought I was the only tree folk!.. just kidding. Cool design. If I could make any suggestions it would be to map on some photo ref and sculpt based on the maps instead of trying to texture it afterwards… I wish I would have done that. Either way, best of luck to ya… our guys can duke it out when this thing is over
Muahahhaa… not only am I an ent… but I am the Lord of the Ents!! =)
I looked at your guy, looks good, I like the roots you did on the legs. I’ve still got a lot of detailing to do, especially on the roots. Right now they all look the same. I’ve never tried the modeling after you texture and I think it’s a little late for that now. Your texturing looks good, seemed to work out OK.
Well I’ll keep an eye on your ent - I liked your concept weapon btw!
hah thanks man, I wish I could keep the same staff as the original concept but I didnt realise that a logo had been choosen
Anways, keep up the good work, were all waiting for updates
More Zbrushing! Still deciding on the weapon and whether or not to have a cloth of some sort flowing under his belt.
I like the pose but theres a bit of tweaking to do as usual! Happy about the deadline extension =)

More updates on Zbrushing. I’d love to hear some feedback =) I just have to go in and really detail everything. I’m also working on the staff.
For this update I worked on the head details, the belt, the left arm and then added the 3 headed venus flytrap thing.

Here is the wire. Got my poly count down now I just need to lay out the UVs and start bringing him to life with some color!

I finished the weapon basically just need some more detailed sculpting. I have the UV’s laid out for texturing so I’ll be starting on that ASAP. Still need to sculpt the venus flytrap thing.

when ever i see venus fly traps i cant help but think of little shop of horors “FEEDD MEEE SEEMOORrr”
you should consider doing the high frequency detail stuff like the bark in Crazy Bumps so that you dont totaly slow down your comptuer doing that in Zbrush.
you might also want to sculpt the cloth a bit more, to make it feel a bit more dynamic
also i think it would be good planning to do a couple of color tests, befor you commit to a final texture.
keep it up dude.
SPIDER2544: I’ve never actually seen that so I don’t know if thats a good thing or a bad thing that these fly traps remind you of that movie! I’ve already started the high detail in ZBrush. It seems to be doing fine on my computer. Zbrush 3 is a lot better with such high poly’s. Plus it helps having all of the layers seperated. And I would like to do some tests first off… I’m still unsure about color.
I still need to sculpt the cloth, the branches, the weapon, the belt… and still more to go on the body! I’m hoping to get it done tomorrow so I can move on to textures. I feel the pressure now!
Anyways here are the updates and some close ups:

brilliant work. i did a tree dude as well. just posted the finished shots which is a relief.
this is a really cool piece of work.
Wow that was a crazy last couple of days for me!! I napped for about an hour this morning but besides that I’ve been working almost straight since yesterday morning! So now I’m going a little crazy but it’s over finally!!!
I had a bunch of problems with normal maps in Maya so I ended up downloading the 30 day trial of Max and learning that while doing all the renders in there. It’s way easier than Maya as far as normal mapping goes.
I started on the textures just yesterday so I went through them as fast as I could and I was stumped on what to come up with for the base… so I went for a stump =) I am happy with it!

This turned out great - sure feels nice to be done doesn’t it? The detail in your Zbrush sculpt is amazing! Best of luck!
