hey jramauri,

Thanks for your crits and your honesty. :slight_smile:
I was cuising the posts and I was seeing alot of mutated creatures, so I tought I would try a mutated look for the her. I do have a traditional texture map saved too. I wanted to bounce this idea off of others to see the response I would get.

I want her skin to look like it is infused with majic. I am tying to figure out how to do that.

I agree that the dress pattern is too repetitive and you are right, I do need reference for the boots.

I will post my references soon.

I have not yet addressed the expression of the face.

May I ask, how would you go about doing the hair?

thanks for your responses.
Matt

i like idea 1 better… just give her a pet or monster to protect her from all those metal dudes!

so the electricity deactivates the metal monster? cooool

#35

The way her skin looks by now is just a kind of zombie. Maybe you could try to add some tatoos on her skin, or even glowing lines. Change her outfit would a good idea too, as her dress is to simple for a DW character.

About the hair, I intent fo make the hair of my girl on zbrush, less the fringe. This part works better with transparency map, on maya.

Looking forward for your ups, man.

#36

here is a quick update. I still have quite a bit of work to do on her.

#37

I agree with the comments about the zombie.

I also think that the amulet isn’t nessessary, it would be much cooler if it were the jar that was the artifact, like the source of her power. It’ll be way more original too; Amulets are a pretty obvious idea for an artifact.

I don’t mean to insult or anything, just trying to suggest improvements.

#38

Thanks for the response!
You will be pleased to know that the jar is the artifact. It is what allows her to communicate with the insects she catches.

There are some slightly improvements you could do to make your char looks better, in my opinion:

  1. Bigger eyes, to look younger;
  2. Bring the mouth nearer to the nose, for the same reason;
  3. Make the head bigger, to make her 6 head tall, a nice proportion for such age;
  4. Waist thinner. Children ares so thin sometimes you can’t accept they have organs inside. I know you can think that will lack volume on her, but this can make her look more like a real kid;
  5. Less spread legs;
  6. A little more volume on boots;
  7. See the shape of her shirt? This helps to give some volume to this area;
  8. More definition on arms, as her sleeves are so thin and tight.

I hope this help you, my friend! If I were you, I’d made that red stains on her face more subtle, they are too exagerated by now.

Looking forward for your next steps.

Here is a more defined concept. Considering the feedback and considering my own results, I went ahead and decided to work out a more solid idea of what this character will look like. I decided to go with a more punk styling. After listening to bad religion, rancid and goldfinger all day, it seemed to make perfect sense. Same powers, just a differenct look. the new look seems a bit tougher too, since this is WAR! Of course a stalker would not have the logo plasered on the chest inside of a heart, but I think the integration makes enough sense to go ahead with it. 'sides, a good stalker would never be seen until it was too late :twisted:
thanks for all the feedback so far. Now onto reworking the base mesh that I have.

#41

A great change, undoubtly. Now she looks much more menacing and adapted to the war.
You haven’t said anythig about her age, but I consider that with this new attitude and style, a teenager would be more suitable to this char than a child.

Good job man, I hope too see this developed. Keep it up.

here is a screen of my wireframe. 8971 tris so far. I left some for the eyes. I had to order some more RAM for my machine so I can increase the subd level in ZBrush. Should be here this week. I am increasing from 2gb to 4gb. I am excited to see what I can do with a subD level of 7 in ZBrush.

#43

So, I got my 4gb of ram, but 32 bit windows OS will not recognize it all. (even vista…)
ANyways, here are some updates after doing a clean install on my machine.

THis is the first pass with zBrush. I still have alot of work to do, but I like this direction much more than the previous version.

#44

Here are a couple of test renders. One from zBrush and one from xsi with textures and normal maps applied.
I still have to tweak some rogue UVs. Thanks for looking!

#45

here is a pic of the concept next to the working model. The post is rough right now. I still have some weight painting to do. I also need to tweak the dress and the pigtails…among other things. C&C welcome! I am using orange, green and light blue lighting. I lost my shadows somewhere in tweaking, I need to get those back…Next opst will have some shadows. the backlight may be blowing them out.

#46

here is my latest.

#47

Man, her body shape looks kind a weird to me. I sugest you revisit those points I posted on your previous version of her. Of course clothes and colors are much better, bur her shapes really don’t please me.

#48

Hmm I second jramauri… I think the outline of her head could come in to better pronounce her the shapes in her face. At the moment her head is a round blob, while her face looks a little manly. Sorry but the head and face do not seem to be working with each other. This isn’t helped by her torso, which seems wide compared to her arms and legs. The hands could also be a little more petite in my opinion.

I would define her chin and cheeks a little more, widen her arms and legs, give her some more shoulders, widen her fingers, then reduce the torso a little. Once fixed some of these bits I would then try and get it as close to concept as possible. You’ve come a long way, so keep going!

#49

hey guys,
thanks for the feedback.
I will take another look at thos overall proportions and such. I will put the legs closer together once I have her rigged.

Here are some of my refs. Will post updates after I am done working today.
thanks again!

#50

Here is a screenshot with latest changes. I changed the face-made the eyes bigger brought mouth closer to the nose etc. I shrank the waist torso and hands and I plypainted additional details and added volume to the arms and legs. I also trdid the hair.

#51

Here is a pose rendered in mental ray. Once I figure out glow maps…I should be able to finish… The fireflies were done in Photoshop.

#52

Ok,
I have fireflies glowing in a jar now…which, I would call progress especially since I found out glow effects in XSI are lacking. I ended up plugging the glow map into the Incandesence intensity of the shader and it seems like it worked. It is not emitting photons, but it is close to what i wanted to represent. This contest is great. I am really learning alot from this!
