Nice to see something fully textured  You did a good job on this.

#66

nice texturing! But the face looks like he’s a Kiss fan

, :)))) you did body more blue-black and the face white-black

#67

hey man, good work, my only crit is that you have so much detail loss in the black armor. I mean if ya look at it up close it looks great but from a distance it doesnt read at all. I would suggest some contrast to the etching  either way, good work its good to see so much progress.

Hey there. Its looking good so far. Youve done quite a bit and i see a lot of balancing issues. It seems likes it kinda all over the place concept wise. and im not sure the proportions or some of the items really do justice for the character.

I took a few minutes to do a paintover to add and take away a few things i thought might help balance it out. the arms i added a couple gloves that can be used as sheilds too but they are meant to match the red of the rest of the armour but specifically the nice metal bits on the feet.

I made the crystals on his shoulder much bigger because they werent nice at that size. I added a lot more contrast throughout, making some things a lot brighter and darker so that certain parts would stand out more.

I took off the horns on the belt and the weapons on the feet because they just dont make sense to me and dont really seem very useful as armour or battle gear. just my opinion. I gave him a belt that would match his upper chest armour and put some more of the fur clothing throughout so it was even and nicer to look at.

i think at this point he just needs a really cool weapon. something fantasticly impressive so he stands out in the comp. hope i help and i hope i didnt offend you

I agree with some of the critiques, but I think you should keep the horns
Great work!

hey guys thanks for the comments and critics, i really appreciate it!!

digi_est: yeah i guess u’r right, he does look kinda like a kiss fan heheh, i’ve just added a little more blue to his face and looks better, thanks a lot!

kmanning: you’r right too man, i’m playing with the spec and diffuse right now to get a better contrast, thanks!

Rek0: you didnt offend me at all man, but the opposite, i really appreciate you took some time to go over my concept! really thanks a lot!!!
about my concept i’m going for a character that is both majestic and barbarian at the same time, so that’s why he has both armor and rustic leather clothes. the paintover you did is taking kind of a different direction:

  • about the gloves you did i really like them , i think it would fit really well in the character, i might add some with similar design on him.
  • i totally agree with you about the crystals, in fact, i’ve just made them bigger and with more contrast and they do look better, i also like the silver edges on the black armor plate helping it to stand out more, i’ll change that too
  • the horns are actually part of his gear, they’r used for climbing and like i mentioned before, they are free to move with the legs, i guess i’ll have to make it clearer by adding some big latches to it and i might use the idea of the belt design for these latches. about the fur i like it but i think is a little too much fur.
  • the things on his feet are skis( which also make him kinda stand out a bit from the others), also part of his gear since his favorite battle environment is going downhill on hi speed battles. i’ve also put some holders on his back so he can hang the skis there while he’s on flat environments.

even though i didnt agree about some of the critics that doesnt mean that i didnt appreciate them,i really did! again thanks a lot for your time man! it really helped me a lot! wish i had even more people like you visiting my thread!

right now i’m working on the artifact (crossbow) and fixing and adding stuff in the character and i’ll be posting something very soon, probably tomorrow. thanks a lot for all the support guys!

#71

no problem, my pleasure. Im happy you took some of them. i wasnt expecting you to take any so some is better than none. i think in the end this is your project and you have the final render in mind thus it is completely up to you where you go with it. good luck!

#72

more updates: this time is just a small test on the beauty shot and a shitty render of the crossbow, hope you guys like it, now i’m gonna take some sleep before the sun rises…

Looks cool. I’m glad to see you’re on your way to the finish line. So many people tend to drop out or stop updating this late in the competitions.

Good Luck finishing up!

#75

To me he looks almost perfect. About the final pose, I think he looks too serious and static. You could give him more curvature to his spine, to make he looks more super hero - after all this is a war and power is what this is all about! I made a quick paintover using liquify and the traces I think should be enfatized, hope this be helpful.

Congrats for your great work! You really did it!

#76

emysfit: thanks a lot man, it’s been great to have your support throughout the whole competition!

jramauri: I agree with that, i will change it for sure, thanks a lot for taking your time to do a paintover, i really appreciate that!!!

#77

more updates, probably the last one… i tweaked the lighting in the beauty shot and winning pose to give him more contrast and i also changed the pose and camera angles in the winning pose.i’ll probably be submitting the shots really soon since i’m done. good luck to everyone and thanks for the support!:

hey man looking good, although the textures look a little blurry in your final shots for some reason, not a huge deal though

Small things make huge leaps foward. Looks even better. These competitions are great for getting little critiques like that. Part of the fun of them is the community participation!

Again good luck, and looks great!
