Pheonix - Thx! Its hard to countinue after seeing your thread!

Today i did some work on the dog - still needs work, but i also have to push things if i wanna make it till the deadline. Anyway, still 2 weeks to go, that should be enough, if i dont get to much stress at work.

Nice modeling work so far, especially the musculature on the hound and the boy’s cloth wrinkles. Is the book going to be his Artifact? How were you planning on integrating the CGTalk logo/colors? Anyhow, good luck!

#8

walrus - thx for your post! Ye, the his magic book will be his artifact, the logo will be on the middle, and i’ll try to apply the colors to it somehow - i make some paintovers when we cross that bridge. Heres the book (just a placeholder at this point, but its going to be something like this), and the possibble placing of the logo:

Hope you have time to finish this. Really good concept, and the sculpting turned out great too, especially the boy’s face.

Hi!

Looks GREAT!
I really like this overall dark sepia tone, I think it would be great to paint the textures in this style (or maybe its just me). I hope you finish it!
Keep being amazing

Thx guys, your comments are very encouraging! i try my best to finish in time, it shouldn’t be impossible. I liked that color too, i try to match them up, but i have to use the team colors too, so im afraid that would draw too much attention with that bright red. we’ll see… I’ll post some updates tongiht, i hope i can make some progress.

#12

ok, as promised some updates on the kiddo - still bald, but i’ll make the hair only from texture i think. I know more after some tests. i can make only slower progress over the week, but i try to work over some nights too. here are the pics, im quite happy with the shoes, not so much with his pants. maybe i put in some bigger wrinkles, or overlapping .

#13

didnt had too much time over the week, but i could do some work on the dog. hopefully i can start retopo and unwrap them at the start of the week. That 5 day extension was a real lifesaver.

#14

I love it. Cool concept, great contrast in physical form but they are both evil little bastardos! I think the boy’s clothes are trully inspired, like a puritan. Sweet sculpting too

#15

I like the characters a lot especially the hound, are you gone go for “The company of wolfs” (see attachment) look or are you gone give it hair ?

#16

Hi!
I like the concept! The non symmetrical details are cool on the models. Don’t need more words here… Keep it up bro, and good luck to finish your job on this, in time ! :bounce:

#17

thx guys for your support

Maurits - the dog is going to have skin similar to this i think - (without the hair)

more updates comming soon

#18

more updates. all stuff is wip (the pedestal, textures etc.) polycount is around 8900, but i wanna improve some parts that deform badly. also there are some seams, and normal map artifacts, but i’ll fix those in notime. still working on the hair, also testing some shaders. i kinda have to hurry now, wish me luck

Extremely nice update! I love the overall feeling of this piece, I think with a good specular map, and good lighting It will be Outstanding. The boy is a real eye candy,he reflects pure evil without any stereotipycal accesories, or a zombie arm. I’m really looking forward to this piece, and I’m absolutely positive that you Will finish it.

Cheers

thx guys for the moral boost, i think i need it for the last several days :).

Maurits - ye, i know, but still a lot to do, only did a few lighting tests, and theres still some texture painting, normal map, and mesh fixing left to do…

next year i sure start earlyer

Nice progress on the texture so far. But the dog is a real chicken, the tail between his legs!

I would also give the entire folder of the book the same color. Silly tiny crit, but it looks like the pages blends together with the folder when the inside got pretty much same color as the pages. Aswell, it would be nice if you could get rid of the texture stretch on the ground, thats the first thing I saw.

About the pose, it would be nice if both the dog and the boy were actually looking at the same thing, or at least if they would seem a bit more teamed up. Right now the boy is thinking about algorithms while the dog is about to attack the camera. Besides that, the pose is perfect.

Is that the next edition of d’artist he is holding btw:) ?
Jokes aside, great work!

hakanpersson - kinda liked that pose with the tail (saw some fighting wolves with their tail between their legs), i dont wanted him to look too happy… you’re right about the book, thats just some colors dropped on it yet, still have to work on that one. the final shot will make them look more teamed up - but i still havent figured out the final angle. thanks for your feedback, its sure helpfull to get some opinions from others with fresh eyes.

anyway, heres a shot without specular, or fancy shaders, just maya, with some lights…
