DWIII - 3D - dandan - Josiah

#1

Hi all!

I hope im not too late, my days are kinda crowded nowadays, but i really wanted to do this. I choosed the invoker class, the main idea is to make a harmful (but also mean, and evil) looking child, with a big grimoire, and some big, almost hellhound-like dog he has bound with some magic... anyway, i try to come up with a decent story afterwards :D.

-EDIT- the story goes something like this (dont expect anything fancy, im very tired  ): The peacefull village of Morningshine was always special in New-England. But noone knew that the village priest had a dark secret - he stole all the hate and anger with his sinister magic, and transfered it into the orphan Josiah, who was his servant, noone ever saw. This way he could rule without the fear that anyone would get in his way. But the day the machines came everything changed - even he couldnt escape death, but there was someone who did - even with his boy weakened by the dark magic of the priest, after the machines left, Josiah still managed to get the grimoire of the sorcerer. He saw him perform magic day by day, so it was an easy task for him to heal his wounds - and with all that hate and anger in his hearth he summoned a beast so dreaded, nothing could get in his way.

thats the best i could come up with so late, now i think i take a few days off

Good luck to you all! So here's the concept sketch first, i hope i can finish in time, and that you'll like it -

I’ll countinue tomorrow :).

#3

nice concept , you pick the great alternative against big muscle guy thing ,
wait for more update , goodluck!

#4

Hey Monsit - thanks for your kind words!

Ye, i wanted to avoid the thuggish character type, there are a lot of guys much better than me, who are probably going for that. Anyway, heres an update on the head, and the collar.

#5

Nice start on the collar region. Keeping up!

#6

Pheonix - Thx! Its hard to countinue after seeing your thread!

Today i did some work on the dog - still needs work, but i also have to push things if i wanna make it till the deadline. Anyway, still 2 weeks to go, that should be enough, if i dont get to much stress at work.

Nice modeling work so far, especially the musculature on the hound and the boy’s cloth wrinkles. Is the book going to be his Artifact? How were you planning on integrating the CGTalk logo/colors? Anyhow, good luck!

#8

walrus - thx for your post! Ye, the his magic book will be his artifact, the logo will be on the middle, and i’ll try to apply the colors to it somehow - i make some paintovers when we cross that bridge. Heres the book (just a placeholder at this point, but its going to be something like this), and the possibble placing of the logo:

Hope you have time to finish this. Really good concept, and the sculpting turned out great too, especially the boy’s face.

#10

Hi!

Looks GREAT!
I really like this overall dark sepia tone, I think it would be great to paint the textures in this style (or maybe its just me). I hope you finish it!
Keep being amazing

Thx guys, your comments are very encouraging! i try my best to finish in time, it shouldn’t be impossible. I liked that color too, i try to match them up, but i have to use the team colors too, so im afraid that would draw too much attention with that bright red. we’ll see… I’ll post some updates tongiht, i hope i can make some progress.

#12

ok, as promised some updates on the kiddo - still bald, but i’ll make the hair only from texture i think. I know more after some tests. i can make only slower progress over the week, but i try to work over some nights too. here are the pics, im quite happy with the shoes, not so much with his pants. maybe i put in some bigger wrinkles, or overlapping .

#13

didnt had too much time over the week, but i could do some work on the dog. hopefully i can start retopo and unwrap them at the start of the week. That 5 day extension was a real lifesaver.

#14

I love it. Cool concept, great contrast in physical form but they are both evil little bastardos! I think the boy’s clothes are trully inspired, like a puritan. Sweet sculpting too

#15

I like the characters a lot especially the hound, are you gone go for “The company of wolfs” (see attachment) look or are you gone give it hair ?

#16

Hi!
I like the concept! The non symmetrical details are cool on the models. Don’t need more words here… Keep it up bro, and good luck to finish your job on this, in time ! :bounce:

#17

thx guys for your support

Maurits - the dog is going to have skin similar to this i think - (without the hair)

more updates comming soon

#18

more updates. all stuff is wip (the pedestal, textures etc.) polycount is around 8900, but i wanna improve some parts that deform badly. also there are some seams, and normal map artifacts, but i’ll fix those in notime. still working on the hair, also testing some shaders. i kinda have to hurry now, wish me luck
