DWIII - 3D - bonepuller - [TBA]

So this’ll be the first time I’ve modeled anything substantial in like…pssh, 6 years or something. I’m an animator by day, so I’m trying to use this competition to get back into modeling.

Having trouble settling on a single idea, much less a single design; so I’m just gonna throw a handful of the sketches I’ve done that I hate the least up here and see what happens. I need to settle on a direction soon and start iterating.

So here’s what I’ve got:

Rock Giant Invoker with a Vegetation Artifact: The idea is this guy ripped a ‘Tree of Life’ type thing out of the ground and is dragging it around with him. It’s slowly taking him over as it dies. Eventually, he won’t be able to move any more and will be reborn as a new tree.

Undead Warlord with a Vegetation Artifact: The stone head of the morning star, or mace, whatever; cracked open like a seed and tendrils of vegetation are starting to consume this Undead Knight whether he likes it or not. I don’t like the drawing, but I like the idea of the dead flesh getting wrapped up in vegetation.

Human Warlord with Darkness Artifact: This one I definitely like the idea, but hate the drawing. I think I could riff on this and come up with something cool, but I’m not sure it would ever come across the way I’m thinking of it. The story is that this holy knight picked up this weapon on some adventure. To him, all he saw was a gleaming silver sword, beams from heaven, and a choir of angels. So he took the weapon and continued to fight as a Holy Knight, thinking all the while he’s doing good while this weapon corrupts him to darkness. He only sees what the weapon allows him to see. To him, those wings sprouting from his back are his noble red cape; and that innocent villager he just slaughtered is a demon from hell trying to attack him. I think there’s some cool opportunities to contrast gleaming silver armor and a righteous pose against the darkness of the weapon and the physical decay that’s happening to his body.

Female Stalker with Ice Artifact: Not as much as far as ‘story’ with this one as the others, but I think it would be challenging. She wields an Ice Sword that also gives her the power to mold and create ice, so she fasions her opposing hand into whatever shape she deems fit. I also like the idea that she and the sword are permanently fused through an unbreakable solid block of ice that covers her wrist and most of her arm.

I would want to rework a lot of her design if I went with this idea, lose the cliche skulls on the shoulder/belt; and just try to make her a little less ‘plain Jane’ overall.

i like the ice girl the most… go with that one for now in my opinion unless you have more sketches…

I like the human warlord the best, the whole physical decay of his dying body makes him the most deadly of the three IMO.

for me its a tough call call between the ice lady and the undead veg

I like the undead fella the best. something about the rotting body feeding the artifact is really cool. the fact that the artifact is a mace thats cracked open like a seed just pushes it over the top. great stuff.

Undead and female stalker both are good. Out of these two, Personally I feel Undead is real cool.

The giant with the tree of life is an AWESOME concept, with a lovely story to it. I’d love to see that one taken further.

Awesome sketches man, I say the tree guy is the coolest. The story behind it is pretty neat.

I like the veggie guy and the cold-hearted woman… If I had to pick one of the two I would say Mr. Veg. I like the girl just not her weapon/artifact.

Well, I think I’ve settled on doing the Ice Stalker girl, for a lot of reasons. Not the least of which being that I know she’ll be a challenge and that’s what this entire competition is about for me.

BUT…that said–I did do a few revs on some sketches for the Rock Giant. So since I did them, you have to look at them.

Here’s some Rock Giant head variations, a new sketch of the Giant with more entangling roots; and a rev on the tree he wields–complete with mystic runes and ornamentation from the happy tree worshippers before the giant stole it to use as a club.

Here are some new ideas on the Ice Stalker. Some thoughts on the ice acting more as armor, how it would look, the ice on her cape, and some weapon ideas.

From here on out I think I’ll be in 3d. Thanks again for the comments.

some really awesome work. i still like the rock giant best but the stalker is growing on me.

First thread I have liked EVERY concept , I like the giant vegetation invoker because its out of the norm to have a large invoke who looks like they are physically capable, also really like the Ice woman that weapon is sweeeet, Keep up the GR8 work keeping both eyes on this :thumbsup:

Working on a female basemesh that I’m not gonna nitpick too much since I know she’ll have clothes/armor/ice over most of it. Trying to concentrate mostly on proportions and overall shapes:
