It is about time you got yourself over here. Good stuff, so far, Mike.

I like the latest revisions to the character! I really like the Mace. Now that you’ve added it I think you need to tone down some of the arm/ shoulder armor detail. The new image looks like the guy would have a very hard time moving around let alone fight with his badass mace!
For instance the shoulder pad and the top of his glove are almost colliding. I’d just chop those a bit!

Thanks Keight!
Vinod - Yeh, I was thinking about some of that. I will definitely make sure hes fully movable before I finalize the design. Good eye! I also need to finish designing his leg armor and stuff, I kind of just threw something generic on there for now.
Just a small update, added some detail to the legs and such. I will be doing some more sketches soon, follow my my illustration & model sheet.
What do you guys think?

Love the colors. And it reminds me of nice animation concepts. Beautyfull.

if anyone has any last input on this, iw ould love to hear it. If not, I am going to illustration model sheet.
Wahoo!
Hey Mike, really cool concept and like a lot your sketches, great!!. The armor looks awesome and perhaps the boots needs to be a bit biger to balance the design with the large weapon and left arm armor, only a comment
Again, great work and looking forward for more updates. Cheers mate!!
Thanks for your crits and comments guys!
Would love to hear your opinions on my WIP finished piece
Lookin’ good Mike!
I like the sense of weight the mace has, it’s all because of the good drawing and balance of his arm/shoulders. I think you should extend the handle of the mace a bit… he wouldn’t be able to hold it with two hands if he wanted. Plus wiht a big weapon like a mace it’s better if there’s a longer handle just for visual balance.
Can’t wait to see the finish!

I love the character, and the animation feel to it makes it look pretty nice. The only thing I’d say is that the red cape seems like an afterthought. Maybe if you incorporated that bright red into some other element in him to make him look less flat. Otherwise it’s looking sweet. Can’t wait to see what you do with the background.
Hey Mike, AWESOME design! Dont mean to kiss ass too much but its really nice to see some original illustration styles being used. After doing an illustration degree myself, I am strugling to get my style across with this type of brief…you have inspired me to keep tryin’ though!
I love it! Your style is spot on and just brings so much life to the design! I may have a strike of the man card for saying this, but my initial reaction was, “Awwww, those little guys are so cute!” Both presentations are really good. Just need to make the background more refined so it flows into the foreground compositionally (if that is even a word, i dunno).
thanks for your comments and crits guys!
I got around to working on my model sheet (I still have some fixing to do, as well as more model sheet stuff!)

Done! Was a ton of fun!

Story -
When Henrys parents were killed by the machines when he was 3, he was left to grow up orphaned, homeless and alone. Until one day when he found a ring made of bone. He was unsure of its purpose but figured it was nothing more than creepy decoration, and at least equal to the value of a couple good meals, so he kept it in the best place he could think of, his finger!
Shortly after, Henry started to feel extremely strong, his empty stomach felt full, his energy was endless. This increased as the days went on, until he became extremely powerful, with the agility and strength to defeat giants with ease. Henry knew it was the ring, and became extremely cautious due to its fragility, His greed took over and he quickly and crudely build a glove around his hand and arm to protect it. The weight didnt matter as he had no problem lifting it. He didnt even make it removable, as he wanted to make sure his ring was always safe
Soon after, Henry discovered the true source of his power, the Skullies! Curious, child like creatures that he had unknowingly summoned by wearing the ring. It spooked him at first, but eventually he got used to it, and they began to form a bond.
It wasnt all good though, Henry began to change, he noticed half of his body starting to decay. He knew, the Skullies knew, it was the ring. He had to choose a path. Having a sense of friendship and family for the first time, Henry decided to keep the ring, regardless of its effects on his body. He knew he could remain powerful if he protected the Skullies, and the Skullies followed him wherever he went.
Henry realized that his power had to be put to use, so he joined the war to fight the machines, and avenge his parents.
Turned out great Mike!
I really like the nice touch of red on the mace. Also the way you used texture works well, you didn’t overpower the image, just added some of the “real” detail that people like to see. The upturned cigarette is a nice touch too.
The model sheet looks good, like my sheet I think it could stand to have a bit mroe life to it so it’s not so stiff. But it is a model sheet!
