now that you have put the numbers my choice would be 2.2 and 2.5

hey man sorry to bother you I wanna ask you a favor I really need that someone comment about my latest update that I posted yesterday to get started in developing this idea I wanna know if it’s worth and you are very good commenting and giving people ideas I respect you very much man.
Thanks for listening
Its on page 3

Thanks for all the input everyone. I am leaning more towards heads 1.1 and 2.4 or 2.5. Havine a body to stick them on makes the choice easier, so I’ve been working on that. Sadly leaving myself little-no time for an outfit, so I think it will end up being minimal. Thought up a bit of a back story too (skip the next 3 paragraphs if you want).

His society is a peaceful one, but not completely unaccustom to war. Full of pride and a desire to better themselves, they prize the intellectual. But a rare few youth born to the race are different. Unwanted and unloved children destined for a life of lonelines. In the sea of green among their people they stand apart, vibrant yet dark. But what might have been considered beauty is little more than a warning to their brethren. Like a screaming klaxon that warns of poison that courses through their blood running just below the skin, holding the promise of death with even the lightest touch.
These few are rejected, sent out of society into the wild with the hope that they will be found and taken into the monestary.
Its not a haven, but a place for meditation and reflection, for coming to terms with the life they are given. Living as monks they feel no hostility for the people whom cast them out to the wild, but protect them. Along with inner peace they seek perfection of the old fighting styles and tactics. In their techniques of stealth and combat, the small handful of rejects form a small military unit so proficient that they are charged with the protection of an entire nation. Their vitories so swift that the people are scarcely aware of the battles won on the other side of city walls. A small cadre of stalkers who’s crippling touch takes lives.
But this touch alone cannot defeat the machines.
So the eldest takes up the relic. None of the living members have used it, and all legends have warned them not to. It is a stone that imbues its user with the power of wind and air. With the stone a monk can blast poison from his body to mingle with the air, magnify its strength, and create an expanding toxic cloud so corrosive that even the machines may have no defense.

Ok that’s all I got. I was originally thinking of the artifact as a blade, and upon touching the frogman’s blood has a billowing steam effect that sends his poison into the atmosphere. Of course even poison won’t stop a machine unless the artifact also makes the blood cloud corrosive. But I am not sure I wanna go the rout of a masochistic hero with this since I didn’t originally picture this character being so dark. His origin already turned out pretty depressing.
of these designs I am leaning more towards blue (like night cammoflage), but cannot decide the final pattern. I like the striped-blotches and a kind of commando look, but I would like to hear some opinions before making up my mind.
Also thinking I wanna make him a dual blade weilding character - one sword and one shortblade (a knife or a short sword).

All thoughts and input are very welcome.

I like the blue spotted one, and of the weapons I like the 2nd from the right, or the axe - like one. have you thought about adding a froggish tongue? I’m looking forward to seeing his final pose!

#34

amazing concept man. I also like the spotted one, it just seems like it stands out much better. And the blue is a perfect choice I’d think. unless you wanted to do some CG Talk colors (Red / black) which might also be interesting. however, I think the white gives it a plastic look…as a suggestion, maybe tone it down a bit? Other than that, kick ass man

#35

This is right up my ally. Amazing and unique concept.

#36

I think Weapon #6 Is the best… It could almost be two weapons that attach and come apart. I was also thinking that some kind of Poison dart thing would be cool, however it would not be very effective against machines :frowning: Another thing that might be cool to make is a pair of sai’s (i think thats how it is spelled) with some kind of bladed webbing inbetween so its like webbed or something like that… :buttrock:

#37

superb update, looking really good already!
Dig the blue color scheme, but I wouldn’t go too crazy with the patterns. Something more subtle and dirty could look nice, dunno…
But the dotted pattern looks great! I’d choose that over the bigger blobs!
Are you planning on giving him some gadgets or armour etc. beside the artifact? Right now, he looks a little too naked

#38

Thanks a lot for the input, folks. Even though I haven’t been posting/updating much I am really appreciating it. I’m gonna go with the blue small-spots pattern, though I like your suggestion of trying it in red and black, redmonkey. That white by the way is just shine in the skin surface - I’m trying to make his skin look moist and permeable like most frogs, though I suppose he may be reading pretty plasticky in these reditions.

I personally prefered weapons 5 and 6 too (with the original intention of making the blades seperate into a sword/short sword combo, bostlund), but I am hung up now. I kind of want something more unique so I am considering some sort of Chakram-gian shruiken combo. Something that can be used hand to hand, but also thrown.

I’m falling behind bad and that deadline is rushing up fast…

#39

But great fun. Really wasn’t sure at first but the whole thing has really come together nicely. This really is an original piece, makes me feel slighly queesy but all good!

#40

Thanks Robert! To have gotten that kind of reaction from someone who’s come up with such a grotesquely fantastic stalker design themselves is all I could ask for.

Alright, I am rediculously far behing in this whole thing - haven’t finalised a costume desicn or the weapon, but I almost have it nailed down. I had my heart set on the dual-blade weapon for the longest time, but something really resonated with me in the suggestion of a range/projectile weapon. So I’m hung up on a chakram/shiruken idea now.
Also I have never been too terribly happy with his face, so I’ve rationalized now in giving him a gas-mask. The idea is that his artifact will allow him to make his poison corrosive as well as airborn, but it becomes so toxic that even he cannot breath it. Tried to get more literal in the frog design by giving it an airblader at the bottom to mimic a frog’s appearance when breathing. Also I liked the idea of a man-frog creature with a more human face that wears a frog-like mask.

Oh yeah - and bloody-useless photobucket is messing me around by linking the old, unnumbered images that I already pulled from my file and I don’t know what to do about it.

#41

Great progress he is looking soo cool with his clothe on, personally I like the mask more than the scarf(I really don’t know if sccarf is the correct word)
Maybe a mask tha dosen;t cover all of his face
Anyway goodluck, Hope you can make it

#42

Lets try again

And thanks Gyorkland - I wil be going with the mask. I liked the scarf type ninja mask but it seemed like too obvious a solution. And I really like your seggestion of the mask only partially covering the face.

#43

And here’s what I had in mind for the final pose. I wanted to se it in a foggy marsh with the frog portion climing a tree while simultaneously showing how long the legs really are. Though given the size constraints (1000x1000) this is actually about the final size. So with him outstretched he needs to be smaller relative to the overall image than I’d like because he will lose detail. I’ll likely move his leg up to that second branch. (note - I will ad the outfit once I’ve finalized it)

Also I want to have either a machine walking by at the bottom of the fram (just about to be ambushed) or the torso and head wreckage of a machine dangling from the branch beside him. Thoughts and input welcome (and quickly if possible - we're all running out of time quickly here)

#44

Some head turn-arounds. Included the mask, but I’m gonna leave it out of my final due to time constraints.

#45

Well, I made it. At least I would have if the deadline were 11:59 Mountain time…

I was still able to upload my images, but obviously being two hours late I don’t think I’ll be getting consideration. To be fair, the finsal is not even close to finished (it’s maybe 1/3 there at best), but you just gotta post something, right? Even if its late, and even if its not your best work.

This is the most effort I’ve put into a personal project in a damn long time and I’m proud of what’s come out of it. I’ll keep developing it until I’ve something portfolio worthy - but until then, high-fives all around to everyone whom participated. This was fun. Now its saturday night so lets hit the pub.

#46

Good work Mike. I think just getting something out there that has nothing to do with work is an accomplishment in itself. Are you planning on finishing it up?!? or are you getting pretty tired of looking at his froggy face?

#47

hahaha i love the concept of him in the tree! and any of the ones hes in motin, the tickel me hahah very fin work! congrats!

#48

Wicked - I love your final weapon design, it looks deadly. You definitely showed your talent here, and I hope you show us your final image once you’re done finishing it up!
