Kewl line art, reminds me of Frank Miller’s “Ronin”! The legs look very humanoid, it could be more freakish!

You got a good shape going here already. Looks very interesting!
He looks like something that would crawl out of a swamp to me. The kind of thing that would have waterplants growing out of him or something. A simple-ish staff with glowing mushrooms on it for an artifact perhaps…
Actually, he could have glowing mushrooms and fungi all over…might look neat…

these are damn cool, he/she looks starved and agonised. I really like no. 3 as a powerful silhouette. I’d love to see some speed paint costume explorations for no. 3 and see what ideas you bash out.
Also a few head shots would be quite groovy too.

Ok, so i tried pushing the 3rd sketch into this.
I wanna go with a summoner of some sort.
The concept (if you could call it that already) is having demonic crows manifest and evolving into more powerful allies as the character is gaining strength (or something like that). The type of creatures he manifests could also depend on the state of mind he’s in. Experiencing fear or a threat he might summon more powerful creatures to aid him.
Lol, sounds kinda lame. :smiley:

I also need to think about what the artifact really looks like, huh? I like how the crows come out of the back of his head, but that’s not allowed I assume…

BTW, it’s some sort of androgynous character, a gender is not clearly defined. Basically male but with feminine traits.

Great sketches so far, Hideyoshi! I like the proportions and the spiky bits. But yeah, you definitely need to think about the artifact. Crows coming from the head is cool and all, but might not fit the rules. What about a small cage: i.e. too small to hold the tons of birds that will pour out (becuase it’s magic! :slight_smile: ) Haven’t seen any other combatants with a cage artifact yet… Anyhow, good luck!

Being the indecisive dude, I started anew, here is something for a start.
I am thinking dark Samurai-ish warlord guy with a pair of katanas/naginatas (there’s your artifacts). Maybe summoning something, dunno. :confused:

Thanks, njoo, walrus! Mike, you made some good remarks! I like the spikey/feathery bits myself, so I am certainly trying to keep them!

I love the elongated looks of the extremities in your concept. Makes a very nice style. I like the girl with birds going out of the head, very original!

The samurai dude on the right caught my eye, looks very powerful because of how tall he is and the outfit makes him look even bigger. Would be cool if he had a spear with a banner on it with the CGtalk logo, maybe… just an idea heh. Cheers!

I still wanna explore some other (extreme) costume shapes and weapons, so I will do some more thumbnails…

Artifact: Darkness? some kind of dark mist that affects the enemies’ psyche. They experience freakish visions, uncontrollable fear and become insane which renders them useless in battle. :slight_smile:
