DWIII - 2D - calyx - Aveolae

#31

Alright, here’s a happy post from me-- i’ve more or less nailed what i wanted. In the orthographics Aveolae may appear rather rigid and hard, but i know i didn’t want him/her (androgynous? More she, i suppose) to turn out so… ‘dead’.

My first few drafts i was thinking that i wanted to work with profile views for the winning pose due to the Aons silhouette, but i decided they all weren’t ‘loud’ and didn’t have enough characteristics, and decided against it. Did several other small super quick and messy sketches all over the place… but i didn’t like them. Until i did this 2nd one, and i felt much more content.

I think i managed to capture Aveolae’s persona i envisioned, of whom was trapped in the dark seas for the many many years, and is now free again to unleash her powers. On design, i’m not sure if it’s obvious at this point (it should be after i add colors) but i wanted her to have natural and organic elements enveloping her, instead of any armor, ornaments and et cetera with the logic in mind that she has been imprisoned in the waters, and that they weren’t all that intelligent creatures.

On composition, i tried pushing a dynamic pose and exaggerated some parts, and i quite like how it turned out  Am now wondering about the background…i have some rough ideas, but hmmm.

Rezeroth - Thank you! I did try adding something by the deltoids, but they look too…purposely-added-for-design u_u and i scrapped it… I didn’t want Aveolae to look too err…‘unnatural’, if you know what i mean eep. As of the tail, yes, i agree! Taken into account…i didn’t pay much attention to it initially. Worked it

Ganbatte to you too!
And lol on the aveola  Well…i remember i quite liked the name so…

AxelAlonso- Hi Axel! Well Aveolae will compromise of firey elements (original state) and watery elements (fish/fins) because of the Aons, although overall she is still a fire creature as i mentioned in my first post XD And nope, those aren’t wings, those are fins actually…i hope to make that clearer when i render it in colors  She does sorta float still, though.

Thank you for the support!!

Wow…im digging it. I love the fact that you used lots of bones everywhere, makes it feel like she’s partially dead but not decaying zombie sort… I’m crazy about bones lately so it s just a personal opinion… On her pose, maybe you could try tweaking her left arm a lil…it seems very stiff/straight. bending it might compliment the overall cuvy-ness better i suppose…LOL just a thought… and maybe the right hip looks a lil big? maybe try flipping the image? I found lots of mistakes on Garabath that way ><… Time’s running and stop pulling your hair…you’ll look weird~ LOL!!

edit: oh yea…maybe some moss or something that grows on her would be cool. It’ll add up to the believability of her living in some damp place for quite a long time… LOL…maybe…

Hey, it would be interesting to see to what you will come up in the next 1,5 days in a final picture, as time is mercylessly passing! I moticed you mentioned the background… i advise you to focus on character… background - something abstract, or near to abstract ? Because she is full of details and - there is no time left! Good luck!

#35

So fire and water body type it is,:wise: and they relay on their eons! Hmmm :curious: I like all the idea, Just be sure you wont have a problem for rules, I am sure it doesn’t since its only body type, and not exactly element user type, About the final shoot, I really like the idea of her looking down from her shoulder as in your original sketches and face studies, then again she does represents well the dead body look with out adding zombie style in her, she also has some good composition body type ,for war, and fire inspiration forms, I am looking forward for the color version! GREAT CHARACTER!:applause:

Hey Thanks again for the feedback! You are a great mate to relay on this war!

#36

awesome dude shes looking creepy! onthing i might add would be fins or horns or something on here head to fan out and blance how wide the hips are.

#37

Oh god…time is running out.

Here are some color experiments…there are some crazy ones (like the psychedelic one) leaning towards the last few now. Didn’t like the red ones especially…the Aons look like her hair and she looks like some generic hot babe superhero sort. So…yeah.

Trying my hardest not to loose hope now…

#38

There’s still time. Go go go!! You have my support!! (sorry i cant be of much help T_T)

p/s:Dont be restricted by the CGS colours if it does not look good…

#39

Rezeroth- thanks for the crits, i tweaked her and threw in the colors  TIMEEE

npantic- thanks! Yup time sure is running out… good luck too!!

AxelAlonso- thank you! About the elements, no, she will only be from one elemental class… i’m just saying that the Aons will look rather water creature like since they came from the waters, that’s all  The war is coming to an end… all the best to us all!!

Flork- i altered her proportions a little… not too exaggerated now i think  Keeping in mind about the fins/horns, thanks! (noticed btw, that you’re from AAU? :))

Whoa Mun, you sure are fast! AND I see you have finished! I got to accelerateeeeee

I’ll get back to yours soon enough, let me just get one out of the three submission requirements done! You’re so sure by the way, that it doesn’t have to be a 1000x1000px now?

Thank you again for the support and encouragement!!

Hmm, lots to choose from. i like the dark blue background better than the light tan - the former feels like you put in a dark background, while the latter feels like you didn’t get around to a background. And the dark colros set a ncie mood. Overall I like the top row best, before you got itno wild colors. The red on the far right pops really nicely against the blue.

The one comment I have about the figure is that the upper thighs and hips feel far too large for the rest of the body. They don’t necessarily need to be scaled down. I suspect that even just lengthening the midrift section, pulling the upper body away from the pelvis, would look really coola nd deemphasize the scale difference.

Anyhow, good luck!

Uh… Alex Novo said this on my thread :

Alex Novo:There are max 1000x1000. so it mean that you can do 1000x700 or 700x1000, but not more then 1000px via both sides.

So im gonna still stick to my dimension(which is not square) ><

Good luck! I gtg now coz i need to meet Mr. Hing now lol…check back either later or tmrw. You take care and Good lucks!!..kk byes! *throws you a giant clover! Bai!

#43

OKay… Here’s a little update which i honestly am not very happy with. I’m starting to divert from my original idea. Worse still, i’m wondering why i chose this direction to begin with… But all in all, i joined the war to have fun and i did, and i would still like to get this done to the end!

What do you all think? Any feedback is appreciated!

#44

Walrus, thank you. Your comments were invalueble, all taken into account. I also went for the third on the top row as you mentioned, and worked my latest color (test) from that…though… argh. I’m feeling a little blinded now, gonna take a break.

#45

Mun, thanks again! For a while there i was thinking of the creatures we worked on for the FMV project… ): Kinda miss it. I wonder how are you all progressing?

Look for Mr.Fyreantz at toa too!

#46

i actually liked the cgs colors on your chick! the one with black hips and red legs.

but this ones cool too! more astral plain-E feeling.

i might ad some longer tenticals on the right to keep the s curves going!

and yeah! i go to academy  still waiting to take all the cool classes, just been doing ge’s and basics haha

The pose is really beautiful, I really don’t know how people like you handle poses like this that just looks natural despite it’s somewhat complicated positioning. If you get what I mean. ;p You are a little too hard on yourself some times, I feel. Take it easy and seriously, worry less! Chiiilll. As for your original idea, I think you can still go back to them when you get the time to. Not for this war, though. Perhaps get more prepared for the next war.

I don’t suppose this is done yet? I’m rather liking the background and those effects you have created for the background characters. A great addition to it because I kind of am getting the feel of how the character would actually be like if in a game/ movie. I would really like to see this gets more refined though, in the sense of materials and form. As well as the light direction and the like. I think the blue around her (background) can be toned down a little more so she don’t seems to blend into it… Either that or she can be a little more brighter, bring out the contrast !

#48

Oh my, got to get to the modeling sheet and concept art pages… Will refine this if i have the time…also wanted to try something. Thanks Flork and Hammy, i’ll be back for replies shortly!

Edit: I changed the bottom area a little…tweaking the flames a little. Will post later.

#49

I’ve submitted! Thank you for all the support and crits everyone!
On a note to self though: I’m proud i got it done, it doesn’t matter what happens next now

To War, next year!

Flork- Thanks for the comment, and yep, i did add a couple more tentacles. Went for the blue-red thing in the end  I’m hoping the fire pops now!

I’m from AAU too, what major are you in? I’m a 3d-Game Arts major!
