Duplicate bones problem

#1

Hello

I have a very big scene with alot of objects and materials in it.
The scene separated by layers.

I have import a character model into the scene as a model from another xsi scene and built a layer of its own.

for the skeleton I tried the dt tutorial for character rigging.
In one of the lessons I need to duplicate the bones from the arm to re-use them for the other arm

but the finger bones can’t duplicate in my scene (other bones can)

If I use duplicate symmetry to the arm - all the bones are duplicated except the fingers

If I duplicate just the finger bones with ctrl+d it gives mt this error - " ’ ERROR : Unsupported Input Parameters: agudal4,finger5,finger1,finger2,finger3,finger4,middle_finger4,middle_finger1,middle_finger,middle_finger2,middle_finger3,zeret_finger,zeret_finger4,zeret_finger3,zeret_finger2,zeret_finger1,kmiza_finger4,kmiza_finger2,kmiza_finger1,kmiza_finger,kmiza_finger3,agudal,agudal1,agudal2,agudal3,pulm

Are you branch-selecting the chains first?

#3

did some more tests
I try to start fresh sene

Same problem
can’t duplicate bones

Is there a known solution to that error ?

[B]edit: I post this messege a sec after you =)

What is branch - selecting ?
I use both the MMB and LMB for selection
both get same error

MMB = branch-selecting.

Maybe try RMB (chain selection)?

chain selection (right click) means selecting everything that’s in the same chain as the one you’re highlighting. e.g. object A is parent of object B, which has child object C. when you right click select C, all 3 objects are highlighted because they’re in the same chain.

branch selection (middle click) means selecting everthing in the same chain that’s below the object you’re highlighting. using the same example from above. branch selecting object B will only highlight object B and C.

now as to your question, there might be several reasons why duplication failed. here is my suggestion:

make a null at world centre, brance select the root of the upper arm bone (i presume that’s the first bone in the chain which you want to duplicate), make it the child of the null you just created. branch select the null and duplicate symmetry with the option ‘share parents’ unchecked.
