DUmb Question; How to generate Normal map from another mesh

#1

First, I have to clarify that I have search this forum, as well as the net, but somehow I keep finding how to generate normal map from the high subdivsion level to low (which I know), but not one that explain how to transfer normal map from one mesh to another mesh not related by sub divdion level.

But now I have made my low level mesh & High level mesh seperately, & wish to generate Normal map from the high poly mesh to the low poly mesh. I did some trail & error, shooting in the blind but not end reult.

Can anyone be kind to enlighten me.

Thanks.

Bump, Anyone?

Anyway, should I repost this at Zbrush central?

if the 2 meshes dont have the same UV then it probably wont look right,
you can load and save the map from the texture pallet
then load the normal map threw tool>normal map

Thanks, although I do not quite understand.

But I did posted this at Zbrushcentral, & after many nights searching the whole internet, I found the solution, but it required a big workaround, & best done in external software like Xnormal.

For those interested, these are the steps.

-Load Hipoly Mesh
-Append LowPoly mesh to Hi polymesh as subtool
-Subdivide LowPoly Mesh until it have similar/enough density as the hipoly model (for detail transfer).
-With the LowPoly Mesh selected at the highest Subdiv, go to subtool>Project, & click Project all. (You may need to play with some settings, in the Project tab)

  • Now, the details of the Hipoly mesh will be transfer to the Lowpoly Mesh
  • With this, you can transfer maps (Normal, dispalcement, cavity etc) within the low poly mesh between its hi Subdiv level to low Div level.
