driven displacements maps

Hi, Im currently working on rigging an hyper realistic face, I acquired the Hyper Real Facial Set up by Erick Miller which I am using as reference for some things, but I am stuck in the driven displacement maps part.
I already have all the connections from the different displacement maps to the average and multiply divide nodes but the problem is right at the end of the connections, I can not figure out how all those connections end in my geometry, I checked the reference scene for this part and I do not understand where is the connection neither for what purpose he uses a bump 2D node.
If anyone know can you please help me?
Also if you know any other method to achieve driven displacements maps Ill be grateful!
