Drawing with a tablet?

#1

Hi,

I use to draw with pencil and paper; but now a days, in these modern days, you got to keep up i suppose.

Anyone have any suggestion to how to get used to using a tablet? I just can’t get use to it. I have a Wacom Volito (yes old i know, been catching dust here in my closet and i got to start small  )

I read somewhere that the person held it as a book, like hold the tablet with left hand and draw with the right, so i tried that and it is indeed more comfortable.
Also have problems with the fact that when I press harder the brush gets thicker.

Any tips / excercises? Would be really appreciated

Hi, Kenneth,

The problem with the pressure you can configure in the Photoshop or Painter, to adapt your way to draw.

I think you have to pratice, try some positions for the tablet. Try some exercises, like pick up some photos in photoshop and make the contour. In begin I always look to the tablet, so I try not to watch the tablet, watch only the monitor.

Use a tablet well is much like draw a circle in the paper. If you ask to someone that nevers draw try to make some circles in a paper the circle will looks bad, but if this person pratice a little everyday the circle will looks very better after sometime.

If you need help, please, let me now.

Cheers,
Carlos

I tape paper on the tablet to get a better feel,it was too hard for me to get usetoo drawing on the slippery plastic surface. I think if they made a pen with a felt tip that would be good also. But anyways thats what i do.

Don’t you already have that. With my wacom intous I’ve got several different nibs and one of them is felt tip. The black one. And it feels much like pencil on paper.
