Drawing for 3D Game models

#1

I wish to draw images for the use of creating a 3D low poly model out of them. Either by me or by a contract artist.
So I went to this drawing course, and the teacher told me she will teach me whatever I want to learn.
However, I need to tell her what I want to learn. Perhaps give her examples of drawings I would like to draw similar to.
So my question is what do I need to learn to draw?
Drawing the front and side of a character would help to model it. What else do I need to draw beside the front and side? Perhaps facial expression? Perhaps some concet and other perspective to get the feel of the volume of the character I want to draw?
Can you link me to examples of drawings that were used to create a 3D model?

Thank you.

There are lots of books and tuts to help you get started. I suggest downloading all the Andrew Loomis books and starting with his book titled “Figure Drawing for all It’s Worth.” Couple those studies with a book like Betty Edwards’ book titled “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.” If you just read Betty’s book through chapter 8 you will probably see a huge improvement in your drawing. As for drawing for modeling specific I am not sure. However, if you read the above books you will learn that one of the most important aspects of drawing for modeling is to make sure that everything “works”. Joints need to fit together properly and muscles need to be placed in the correct location in order for your model to actually function. Reading Loomis will help you a ton in this regard and Betty will help you learn how to draw things as they actually appear.

Also, Bobo’s site below shows some examples of how he went from concept to actual low poly models:

Hope it all helps.

hello

also look at some of the art books for Disney and Looney Toons, especially character sheets. they not only show how the character looks as far as shape and scale, but expressions they will use and how they are expected to move.
as above, this is helpful to a modeler in how they will have to layout the mesh
